Well, I'm working on a game with some friends.

I used to dabble a bit in spriting a long time ago, but never took it seriously. Now I've been looking into pixel art a bit more, you know, by looking up tutorials and tips for the game and all.

It's supposed to have somewhat of a retro game kind of feel. I was mostly just experimenting with colors, and the style, and I'm kinda happy with what I've got so far, since I've never animated anything before. I might be here on this page, posting new animations from time to time.

I'm open for critique on anything, the colors, animation, whatever.

Do you think changing the ears would fix that?

Yeah probably.

Small and and stiff upwards, maybe.

Okay, so, when I initially was drawing these sprites, I didn't plan on them being bats. I was just doodling, and I ended up with the sprites I had in my first post. I just called it a bat, because it was sorta bat-like. Though, I realize since it was my own art, I didn't necessarily have to call it a bat.

I did make it look more like a bat though. I finally got time to do it. These are the results.

The first is the new sprite, and then the second is the old one for comparison.

I guess now my questions are:

Are the new ears okay?

And do you think it looks better than the original?

I could always just use the original set of sprites and call it something other than a bat. It'd just be something that's bat-like. I mean, in video games, you can make up anything, pretty much.

If you did not need a bat then the original is fine. Just call it an owl.
I would fix the eyebrow line. Its very dirty and hurts the sprite.

Well...it doesn't really have a beak, so I don't know if I'd call it an owl.

I'll work on the eyebrow line later today, when I get the chance.

If it wasn't intended to be a bat or an owl, why call it either? Call it something else. A flying creature, a Pmashtagan, or whatever else that fits xP

I think the original ears look a bit distracting because they're so large but so stiff - they look more like horns in the animation. Maybe you should animate them to be slightly floppy? Without being animated, I think the bat ears look better, because their shape and position doesn't look like it should be animated.

Well, you know how it is, the sprite was made, and I showed some people, they called it bat-like, so from then I have just been calling it a bat. But We can call it a Pmashtagan if you'd like. :P

Anyway, I took the advice given. The ear-ish things are now floppier, and I cleared up the brow a bit.

Honestly, we just threw out the idea for this game. We're doing something completely different. (I still finished this sprite just because. I mean, it was a simple fix, and I also wanted feedback to see how good my animation skills are getting and to see what else I could learn.)

I still wanted feedback for the art for the new project, seeing that this will be my first game. So should I make a new page for the new game? Or just edit the title of the page and keep it here to avoid flooding the forum with my posts?
