I need some help here.
How can I make the icebear family in the down right corner more readable.

Also this is just a WIP but I would still like some advice if you got any.

Use the darker blues to define them...ground shadows probably will help make them read better

The water suggests that we're looking at the scene from the side, but the bears look like we're seeing them from above.

In pixelart trans is always a color because it is a color.
It's just masked.

ok thanks.
I was just wondering because sometimes you add that the max colors already include the transparency.
So I was a little confused.

For this week its a 17 color max with trans required so 1 color is needed for the trans.

I understand what you mean and it is possible to gain an extra color but for challenges we just go on the trans being a color.

I really like this competition, seems to have turned out some really interesting pieces last time. I wonder if its a lost opportunity not to add a requirement that the work be related to the countries being depicted? It seems it could be a good way to kindle interests and discussions about other cultures?

anyway, maybe for next time. Good luck all!

Noob and First time poster on the challenges, and think I may be heading in the right direction... Although my work pales in comparison to others that have already posted...

We all had to start somewhere, and you work is not so far behind from others here.
Why don't you try an stylized heart ( I thought of a heart as well).

and welcome sir to pixel joint! :)2</a>

edit: Your work REQUIRES transparency, you could try Paint.net or even Photoshop if you can't work with transparency right now

Why thank you Sir!

Not sure if I can do stylized, yet, perhaps once I finally defined a style my own...

Pardon my ignorance, but the transparency outside of the borders just means no fill, right?

I might be doing something wrong or not understanding the challenge otherwise.

Also try to avoid Pillow Shading. Pick a lightsource and stick to it. More natural colors would also help, here's a quick edit:

Thanks for the suggestion!

I am very much still struggling with lightsource and shading, but your example should help me along nicely.

Really appreciate the time you invested in making the example!

I've taken your recommendations into consideration and feel obliged to show a progress update.

Slowly starting to get a feel for it, thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

if the max size to submit to the galllery is 100x100, why did you make Rwanda 109x97?

Posted By: Line
Date Posted: 28 April 2016 at 8:17pm
Burundi is 99x116

You'll need two images, one cropped for the preview (100x100px or smaller) and one full size for the main piece (called "Detail file" in the submission page).
