PRAISE THE SUN

I just started making some Dark Souls fan-art, follow and guide me along the way.

Looks like you are on the right track! With such a nice 3D effect on the cloth, I wonder if you might benefit from a less flat pose or perspective. I imagine that this pose/perspective is going to require some serious bg or foreground elements to bring the audience into the piece.

PRAISING INTENSIFIES

@yahkehbu I plan on putting a background to it, but have no idea what.

If you have one foot slightly in front of the other, I think it'll give the character a slightly more interesting silhouette. Currently it's quite blocky and boring.

You should figure out the background before you pixel more. The background will greatly affect your lighting, which will affect the shadows and lights on the character. Currently, it looks like you're shading with very little concern for lighting, it looks like a very nicely-textured version of pillow-shading xP The fabric folds look nice but there is no sense of form for the character.

@eishiya I originally planned for there to be a sunrise on the background, so I could incorporate a warm backlight, and him standing on a pile of corpses. Also, I tried fixing the lighting problem.

It lost most of it's vibrance, but I didn't want that anyway.

I've added an unpolished background and changed his pose a bit.

Much better! Watch where the legs are coming from though, they don't feel quite attached.
What is the light source? It looks like the sun is in the background, but the character is lit from the front.

I planned on putting a primary, unseen light source from the front and upper-left.I will be using the sun as an excuse to incorporate a warm backlight.

edit:

changed the corpse into a Hollow (one of the enemies in Dark Souls) and improved the shape of the sunset.\

I also feel like my color choices don't read as sunrise-y enough, any tips?

Look at photos of sunrises. They tend to be very orange-pink-purple; you're not likely to see a blue sky like that near the sun at sunrise.

Your rock colours could work, but that entire floor should probably be in shadow because of how low the sun is. The colours on the character do not work because they're too neutral. At sunrise, things directly in the light tend to have a noticeable orange/pink cast, while everything else has a distinct blue cast. However, if you have a primary (=stronger) light source somewhere else, the colours will depend a lot on that too.

Watch the perspective. You're just guessing currently. Since you have a sunrise, you probably know approximately where your horizon is. That means you should be able to place some vanishing points and figure out the perspective. The way the wall and floor are drawn now, it looks like it's all leaning forward.
