We are currently looking to hire a talented and experienced pixel artist for a major project which is already well underway in its development. Our current design team consists of two other digital artists, and as a successful candidate, you will join the team as the third and last party.

You will be given access to our bespoke in-house set of tools, tailored specifically to help, manage and streamline your workflow; an opportunity to meet the team; learn modern approaches of game design; partake of many of our computer graphics advancements, and be directly involved in the development of the game. The position is "remote" and is paid as follows:

$1.00 for a 32x32 bitmap (one sprite)
$100.00 for a .psd file (each .psd contains 100 sprites)

Please keep in mind some game elements (like a large stone) are 64x64 bitmap, meaning such items will earn you $4.00 as it consists of 4 sprites. Another example is 4-frame animated stone item that is 64x64x4 which earns you $16, yet the animation may be as simple as tinting the object. There's a lot of repetitive objects where the majority of sprites are the same and only requires copying it again with different colors, therefore many sprites take no longer than 30 seconds. Lastly, many sprites with "patterns" come down to use of a single 128x128 texture but it rewards $16.

There are currently over 120 full .psds still unfinished (half so far is completed); therefore the total money pool to be rewarded to the successful candidate is $12k.

However, due to the highly confidential character of the project, only successful applicants may become privy to further details regarding its nature.

If you believe yourself proficient enough a pixel artist to work with us, please don?t hesitate to send an e-mail to application@llt.awsapps.com with the following:

      * Any questions you have for us. Good questions will naturally build a good bond.

      * Your background and a short paragraph about yourself.

      * Examples of your design work, relevant to the specification if possible, although any form of art is welcome.

We have chosen PixelJoint forums as our first platform for finding our candidate, as we believe it to be an inspiring community of talented people. Furthermore, our requirements for the game art style is relatively similar to much of the RPG-style artwork found around here.

If you are still unsure about the role, you are welcome to e-mail us any question before sending your application.

That's ridiculously not enough paid, please do not insult artists here by proposing so low prices..

A professional, will be paid at least (lowest rate in all games companies I worked for) 20-30 dollars per hour.

Hi Bo_

We appreciate your feedback.

To direct your concern, we have specifically emphasized the following in our initial posting: there's a lot of repetitive objects where the majority of sprites are the same and only requires copying it again with different colors, therefore many sprites take no longer than 30 seconds. Lastly, many sprites with "patterns" come down to use of a single 128x128 texture which takes almost same of time as a single sprite because you repeat the pattern and add incredibly small variations.

All of the above hopefully clarifies the reason for $1 per sprite, and on average I can promise this is very decent money. We have been doing this for over a year now, and our talented artists definitely make decent money.

Since there are over 25,000 sprites to complete, it would be impossible for anyone to spend time estimating each sprite and the work required, so instead we decided on amount rewarded to be always fair on average. Our automated workflow calculates the number of sprites each month each artist did, and the payroll system picks it up.

Looking at all this from a long-term point of view, 25,000 sprites does imply continuous income for 6-12 month of $25k + bonuses, and this isn't even full time position. I don't think this is bad money.

That all said, we are sorry you find the amount insulting, but without knowing more in-depth details I can suggest we stay open minded. I can agree our requirements are perhaps unusual, but are specific and well defined for anyone interested.

I'm ok with you happily paying 60 usd for  60 flat colored 32x32 squares made in less than five minutes, but i wouldn't be glad to make a whole new character from scratch in one hour, ten times in a row..

If work per sprite is irregular, then pay per hour, week or month ; that would be more fair  to both parties. if the workload is regular, so should be the pay.

You say "there's a lot of repetitive objects where the majority of sprites are the same and only requires copying it again with different colors".
If your original artist set up the palette correctly then changing sprite colours is done via code not graphically.

I'm not even certain what quality they're suggesting here... "much of the rpg-style artwork around here."

if it's something that I can quickly just scribble down i'm pretty much on the "Let's do this!" team... if the quality they're wanting is high-anime-amazement... No thanks.

i have a hunch they're making a tile-set to sell or an mmo... it smells like one...
