So this time around I'm trying to pixel my own version of Bowser!

As you can see, I am setting up the layout. All of the body segments are on their own layer so I can move them around and rescale them freely (hence the high number of jaggies).

Warning, I don't intend for the final result to be so "cutesy" . You should expect this to look more like gigabowser once finished (or at least I hope).

Crits and comments are always welcome.

Quick update

Good improvement on the face.

The front arm blends/tangents with the leg. This would be an issue even if there were clearer shadows. I would move the arm forward a little so that there is a clear overlap. Here is a rubbish edit:

My "fix" creates some tangents with the shell, but I think you could avoid these issues. Play around with your layers, you can probably figure something out.

Thanks again eishiya, you rock   Took your suggestions into account.

Here's another progress update!

General points I am looking for feedback on:

  1. Any issues with the general placement of shadows (so far)?
  2. Anatomical / perspective issues, if any.
  3. Unsure if the new shell is an improvement over the old one.
Also, should I add a secondary lightsource on the back? It might look better, but I'm unsure as it might lessen the impact of the flame.

Further improvements. This is turning out to be really time consuming...

Maybe just a few more shading adjustments and then I will work on cleanup + texturing.

If you have any feedback or crits, now is the perfect time!!!

I don't like the light pattern on floor, it's too similiar to skin texture.

It's very nice overall. But.
Better make the sin pattern more like scales, and the shell of Bowser doesn't read like a propper shell, I read it furry, at least. The lines of the belly look a little weird to me, i would change the curves to make more perspective consistent.
And the division snout-"face" doesn't look like the canonic Bowser.

GameBoy, Dyluck,

Thank you for the feedback , I will attempt to fix the problems you have identified in the next few days.

Reference the snout and shell, the differences are due to me using Gigabowser as a reference instead of just plain old Bowser. Consequently, I ended up somewhere in between the two by accident due to lack of skill. See ref below.

Upgraded floor texture, it should clash slightly less now I hope. Made the cracks more prominent to break up the pattern and gave depth to the bumpy dither.

Tweaked the scale textures and stomach lines a bit. Not sure about any shell modifications yet...

Looks good!

I think you should GIF it so the creation process becomes animated!
