Hello,

We contracted out two separate artists for our logo and background. Both artists are wonderful, and I love the work they've done, but they simply aren't cohesive.

I'm seeking advice on how to fix it. We have two artists on the team (including me) who are experienced with smaller pixel art items/objects, not larger pieces. If this is an issue with lineart or style, then I'll just contract out an artist to fix it up in order to make sure it's done correctly.

Logo:

Background:

What I'd prefer to have is something a little more cohesive, like http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/256660296/movie.293x165.jpg?t=1454099186 - Stardew Valley or http://www.touchtapplay.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Terraria.jpg - Terraria . Any ideas on how that can be accomplished or attempted?

Here is our website so you can get a feel of the game a little more: http://playdwell.com - http://playdwell.com

Thanks! Any opinions or input is really appreciated!
~Brady

It might be because the logo is a day scene while the background is at sunset?
Personally, I'd probably try to make it blend in a bit more. So maybe for the combined image you could reuse the background colours on the logo (while still keeping a bit of contrast with the background), sort of like the way the terraria logo reuses the colours from the ground? And then also use the darkest shade of the background to shade the logo lineart.
Otherwise a fix could be maybe if you made it stand out more, like the way you used the shadow behind it on your site?

Your backdrop (I like it very much!) is flat, it clashes a little with logo.

I think having flat, non-faux-3D letters with less texture to them would work better with the background. If the different biomes are shown with the same silhouette-heavy style as the background, it'll be much more cohesive even if the colours are different.

@mioscene: thank you for the advice! We've attempted to use the background colors in the past and it doesn't work out well for some reason. The best way to make it blend while still using the same colors is definitely by using the technique we have on our site :)

@GameBoy & @eishiya: AH. I never realized the 3Dv2D thing until now! I guess we'll have to redo either the background or the logo, unfortunately. I'll see which will be easier to attempt!

Using the silhouette style on the logo is an option, but I dunno how good it would look. Guess I'll have to experiment a bit :)

That's a shame, because I do think the texture is great!

A silhouette logo would definitely work well! It wouldn't hold the same level of detail, but for a logo you can make that work in your favor! I hope your experiments go well! :D

Interesting. Here's a color edit:

I tried to blend it into the background and sharpen the 3-dimensional properties of the original.

The black outline of the letters was the main issue, but still, the letters are textured objects with different palette and lighting.
Aestethically and technically I agree with @eishiya's solution.

Maybe try obscuring some fragment of the logo with foreground?

Of course you would have to change the foreground a bit. Maybe with some parallax scrolling?
