I have here a few pieces of work, please tell me what you think. I'm striving to improve my work:

A work-in-progress dragon and hero:

it took me over 3 tries to create the dragon's leg, I had to look at many leg references...
And I'm pretty happy with the hero guy...

I'd also like advice on drawing nice looking isometric grass tiles that happen to be 72 x 24 pixels big. When ever I try to draw nice looking grass using say...3 colors to ends up looking like I used the spray paint tool :P Thanks guys...

You've got a good start! The colors and shapes of the characters are nice. I'd add some more highlights to make it contrast a little more but as is there's no huge problems.

Where's the dragon's arms?

iso grass tiles will usually end up looking like a spry pattern. Keep it simple and only siggest a pattern rather than have an actual one. 2-3 version with a random placement of grass tufts and edge tiles with jaggy edges could work.
The dragon and dude look good.

I suppose not, but then again that's the power of one pixel...I guess he looks sad cause it looks like he's looking to the sky...how ironic...

The concept art is a completely different story, there he looks happy...in a not-so-bright kinda way...Meloncoly...

Better?

I would reduce the size of the hands, they're nearly bigger than its feet.  The horns have an odd curve to them as well, they should be jutting out of the crown of the head, as in your avatar.  The shading on the tail could use a little touch up also.  But very good overall.

For grass, I've always found that drawing 1x2 vertical pixel bars in 3 different shades of green make a pretty good grass effect.  It requires a lot of repetitive drawing of the same bar over and over, but if you space them out right and make sure the edges get the same treatment as the center, it will look real nice.

Oh thanks, that's a big help, with the land tiles, but now I'm having trouble re-drawing my dragon to face north-east. I can't get the snout to look like its foreshortened and its facing the correct angle...any tips?

Ok, my grass is evil....

dunno about the head...

Ok, I figured it out, I cheated and copied the muzzle and fore-shortend it in the exact same position:

The grass is nice but I think it needs more contrast.

Your dragon becomes uni-horn on two of the rotations.

The dragon's front feet seem a little big, or maybe just awkwardly positioned. You might try sliding them inwards, towards each other, or maybe take off a digit-- four is a lot. I like the overall design, though.

Your grass doesn't look so bad. If you're not happy with it, though, you could try something with less definition... horizonal clumps of grass, rather than vertical grass blades. It might give a better sense of scale.

The grass needs more little strands, and it could use being filled all the way up with texture. Try that and see what you get.

This still looks kinda off for some reason...

I think it's cus he's going from frontleft, to frontright, then just flipping, rather than turning to far right... perhaps? I'm not very good with iso though, so it's just an opinion.

Try nudging the muzzle up a few pixels in the back-facing view(s).

You might want to add some shadowing to the underside of the back-facing horns, too.
