Pixeljoint is holding another palette competition which is open to everyone and is quite simple.

The winning palette will be used in PJs next ISOcollab.

Besides the usual, another palette will be chosen for a side collab.

Add a rare trophy to your profile.

Comp closes February 14, 2017. (CLOSED!)

- The winning palette will be used on PJs next ISOcollab project. If you submit a palette you acknowledge that it will be used by others for the purpose of this project and credit may not be posted by participants if they submit their project piece to their gallery but you will get overall credit for it. These palettes are not to be considered art so please do not submit to your galleries. Its best to assume that others may use your palette beyond this project. By entering you are giving permission to others to use.

- Win a spiffy trophy + points which are rare and will look great in your profile.
+1000 Pts+500 Pts +250 Pts+100 Pts-HM*

* multiple honorable mentions may be awarded.

* one palette will be chosen for the upcoming PJ side collab. It will receive an honorable mention if it hasn't earned another trophy already.

- Judges are your PJ Mods and select invited PJ members.

- Palettes will be judged on the basis of how it would work on the project theme, which will be kept a mystery to participants.

- You may enter more than once but quality is better than quantity.

- A unique + original palette is the goal but a well balanced palette is very important even if your entry is monochromatic.

- Use this template for your submission.
You must name the HEX values and NO black - 000000 or white - FFFFFF

My entry: Pastel_c22.

It contains most of a part from a 32c palette which I've been using/experimenting.

D-jinn, the rules say black and white aren't allowed.

Didn't noticed, I'm so sorry.
I'll re upload it soon. (updating img url)

I think I was a little bit confused.
Thank you, eishiya.

In case you (GrafX2 users) don't feel like entering all those hex-values by hand...here's a Lua-script that creates the whole template for you: http://hem.bredband.net/ricfha/script/pic_db_PaletteTablePJ.lua - Script

This is an example of the output (NOT AN ENTRY):

Notes:
* Colors are expected to be located at index 0 and forward.
* Set Pen-colors to select background and text color
* This script reshapes the current image so make sure you don't save over your orignal work.
* The font AA may use palette-colors not in the specified range.

My entry called "Happy Konami", as it's inspired by the colors of Konami arcade games of the mid/late '90s.

My first time submitting a palette. I'm gonna call it Carina22 (because of where the inspiration came from)

That's very helpful.  That's a time consuming part that's not much fun.  I'd have to learn GrafX2 though.

I'll try to have an entry next week.

Here's mine.

EDIT: Changed one of the colours slightly.

Posted By: eishiya
Date Posted: 04 February 2017 at 7:39am

This is based on an older palette of mine, with a couple of ramps removed and some of the colours changed to make it a little more general. Gecimen told me it's alright to reuse an older palette in modified form.

Wish I saw that before doing it all by hand.

Here mine:

it's not fit for everything, but hey it may be interesting.

Did you miss the new auto-template script (link posted in this thread)? ;)

Posted By: ||||
Date Posted: 09 February 2017 at 12:25pm
I definitely saw it, I just.. didn't know how to apply it. Do you save a text file as a  .lua file 1st?

but it's fine; it would have saved me 30-45 minutes,  but the time has already been spent.

Date Posted: 09 February 2017 at 12:43pm
Yeah, find your browser's "save page as". Then run the script on an image with your palette. The script can generate customized palette tables as well (and should hopfully be compatible with future PJ compos).

Ah got it.. you made it so easy! I just didn't try saving it that way. Has some cool features. I do like picking the order of the palette manually but this is impressive and lightening fast.

Made me realize I had a few hex values slightly off!
So yeah, better to use it to generate hex values for more than time saving purposes.

here it is corrected (sorry mods):

Well, I've got a lot of great experience while making my first palette called Theo22.
Thanks for the contest, without it I wouldn't ever think about creating a palette :D

DB-ISO22

A well balanced palette aimed at isometrics. The backbone is a sequence of alternating brownish and bluish grays.
Many good platform (ground) colors and functional triple-shades.

Any chance that you will release this version of the Analyze script for DBTOOLBOX?

Posted By: DawnBringer
Date Posted: 12 February 2017 at 8:01am
@mord: It's already in there...hopefully I'll find time to cut enough loose ends to release the ToolBox V1.4 in 2017. If you wanna do some beta-testing PM me.

Ye Olde Swathes of Colour Choosing

Its inspired by old paintings. And it has no; yellow-greens, greens, cyan-greens, blue-magentas, magentas or red-magentas.

YKB-22

YKB-22 is a nice balance between a palette which is multi-functional while still carrying a bit of stylistic flavor.

The palette includes various skin-tones and shades to allow a wide range of skin colors. Using in conjunction with different highlights or dark shades, this central ramp allows for jumping across the hue spectrum.

The brightest color is a yellow, which when used makes the lightest gray seem especially white. It can also be used to fake the eye into seeing stronger yellows in the lower range, which allowed me to omit a strong mid-yellow.

The few greys extend the use of the palette particularly for ISO uses, (learned a lot from studying DBs palettes!).

There are two rogue colors, a pink and purple which can be used in different ramps, for a single purple ramp, or for tinting shadows of white objects like MILK or Clouds, lol.

*Awesome scripts DB!
