CHALLENGE: Kasa-Obake

Foreign cultures and their take on mythology have always had a huge impact on art over the centuries. But once in a while there is a creature that goes over the top!

Challenge winner http://pixeljoint.com/p/10442.htm - skamocore wants you to draw a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kasa-obake - kaso-obake - a one-eyed, one-legged umbrella demon.

Canvas Size - Max 160 (width) x 200 (height).
Colours - Max 12.
Transparency - Optional.
Animation - Optional.

CHALLENGE RULES

  • Participants have until this upcoming Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) to /pixels/submit_icons.asp - submit their entry (strict). Don't forget to check the 'Submit to weekly challenge' checkbox.
  • Only new pixels allowed.
  • Open to all members.
  • Posting WIPs in this thread or in new threads in the /forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=8 - WIP section is highly encouraged, but ONLY SUBMIT YOUR FINAL ART.

CHALLENGE JUDGING

  • Every Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) the previous week's entries are judged.
  • Every week a new voting poll will be posted for previous week's entries.
  • Winner announced the following week.

CHALLENGE PRIZES/GOODIES

  • Top three finishers will receive an award displayed in your PJ gallery profile for all to see and envy.
  • Top finisher gets to call the following week's challenge...sweet.
  • 'Participation' ribbons will be given for all who enter.
  • No matter what happens you get challenged :)

Going for a neoclassical take on the Japanese myth.

10 colours, though I think there are some strays.

You can do whatever you want as long as it is consistent with the Japanese idea of a  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kasa-obake">kaso-obake

I believe the eye and leg thing make it more consistent with the Japanese lore, but there's nothing wrong with thinking outside the box. He's seen as cartoony and mischievous... And always an umbrella. So if you get your main points I think you'll be good.

That's really interesting! I like the idea of him being less of an anime character and more mythological. I can't wait to see what you're doing progress.

My approach on the Kasa-Obake and my first challenge, feel free to make any suggestions or commentaries to improve my pixel art.

@SeinRuhe; Nicely done. But you need to cut down the number of colors on 12 because of the rule in this challenge. You can color the background in one of the already used colors (and in that way to remove the transparent/13 color) or you can use light creamy instead of white. Or, you can remove both colors and add a medium shade of purple to soften that sharp shine.

11 colors, and crappy art but I'm a total newbie so there's a lot I have to discover !
