Hello there! I work with some great pixel artists and now I try to learn some things on my own. I never was a graphic artist so I'm still struggling with the basics.

Could you let me know what do think about the colors I used? As a beginner I mostly use "make it darker and darker" method, so I decided to play some more with saturation and hue. Did I go in a right direction?

I think you're going in the right direction, yes. I think you could push the hues even more though. Just because an object is blue doesn't mean all the colours you use have to be blue ;D

You don't need to upscale art, because forum software resizes automatically when user clicks the picture (and scales down on shift-click). Now it is hard to judge.

Regarding the colors: Your object (I've no idea what it is, a piece of stale feces or a rose?) looks brightly lit by some unnatural source, like Hg lamp, and the brightness hints that the object is relatively flat, but has some sharp deep cracks (black lines), like it is quickly dried land. My suggestion is to try recoloring it into dawnbringer 16 palette, it sets limits, which really help solving the problem of color selection.

TLDR: I don't know what your art piece was supposed to mean, so I can't recommend you any colors outright.

First of I am assuming this is based of a rock texture tutorial by kiwinuptuo on deviant art I remember taking the same tutorial when I first started

using interesting colors is always a good thing
but a good thing to do is to change the hues to a more green-yellowish colors for the brighter areas and blue-purplish for darker areas
where the colors get lighter at the top the cracks should get lighter as well and the darker it gets the less of the bright colors should show up

Also scaling up pixel art is always seen as a taboo by some people because you can always just zoom in but you cant always zoom out

with a bit of practice, you will be able to get it down pixel art is easy to learn and get good at
