i think i started this portrait around 2013, been more or less active in different kind of pixelart since then
http://marcinwuu.deviantart.com/art/Paper-Moon-426530043 - and ref of course
i'm aware it's getting more and more different from the photo and realism in general but i like that brushstroke effect
and yeah, never done a portrait before

Nice colors, I like this soft style!
Are you intentionally making her cheek go inside like that, or did you try to make her cheekbones stand out? I don't think cheekbones are that high and the shading goes nearly to her nose, making her look almost deformed! The reference has a very soft face, her cheekbone doesn't stand out at all...
Also, the lips are quite thick, and the shading on the nose is so high making it seem as if she has a bump in the middle, where the reference does not have this.
How closely do you intend to match?

At this point I don't care about accuracy at all, I use the ref just to understand the lighting (not going for any exceptional accuracy in this field too).
c&c i'd need the most would be about her looking like a real woman (as stated before, i have zero experience with portraits) or not
i just don't want to get stuck for another few years lol

I made a quick edit, I didn't follow the ref though.
Mostly moving parts around so they fit better from proportion standpoint. I didn't touch up on the shading a lot but if you want it to look realistic you should look at face plane references and shade more accordingly to them.
This is all assuming you want it to look more real, currently it has a surreal impression to me that I kinda like and I can't tell how much is accident and how much is wanted. Hope it helps

observation is spot on, i like the shading but face structure is a bit random since i wasn't painting over ref
i thought that the last modifications i did to the proportions made a huge difference, but this edit is next level.
i'll be honest - i'm going to use it because after two days of looking at it i still can't notice all of the differences

(bump of an old topic, but there is continuity so hopefully it makes sense)
