Hey all, I've been working on this piece for about 2-3 hours and just wanted to share it and see peoples thoughts on its current development.

I wanted to make this scene feel like a peaceful, serene summers day which it seems like it is already starting to convey. Although a part of me wants to keep it more realistic, I have ideas for expanding the building vertically and having multiple chimneys all puffing out smoke in a 'Howl's moving castle' kind of fashion.

Some of the colours are fuzzing with the background at the moment (most noticeably the red-ish colour) so I probably need to make some adjustments.

Let me know how you think it's coming along so far or if you spot any glaring issues, thank you!

Cool start!
The chimney should have more of a shadow on the second building wall.
The darker sky reads a bit like sea to me.

What are the clouds on the bottom of the building?

Super cool detailing on the birds!

Thanks for the reply!
The cloud like shapes on the building were meant to be lichen or erosion that you see on old brickwork but they just look a bit too 'cloudy' at the moment.

I've done a bit more work on it now, taking into consideration some of the things you mentioned and adding some extra details. I changed the brightness on the sky blue and it hit me like a truck how dark it looked before. I'll probably add some clouds soon so that should help it read as the sky rather than the sea too.

I'm still learning a lot about how you pick and use colour in pixel-art but I feel like i'm getting somewhat better at it.

Thanks about the birds btw

Looks comfy, I like it so far
I don't understand the new shading on the chimney's left side (from our point of view) though, it makes it more ambiguous where the light source is.

hmm yeah I see what you mean, I'll see about changing it back when I work on it next.
