Greeting, fellow pixelartists! I'm working on a platform game, and so far, I've managed to draw the protagonist and a grassy tileset for it. I'd like to ask you for feedback, mainly regarding the shading.

(He's supposed to look sleepless and he wears a bathrobe)

He looks very sleepless. For the character, I'd work on the outline, lightening the outline where the light hits the robe, and the inner part of the character. The outline seems a bit rough as well, but it kinda makes him look more rumpled. Also, the hair having no outline kinda makes it look out of place.

For the grass tiles, I like the shading and colors on it.

Thanks for your feedback. :)

An important thing to note is that the protagonist is based on a real person (a non-English YouTuber I'm making a fangame about) and its the reason behind some of the more peculiar design choices (like the bathrobe or the dark circles under his eyes).

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by lightening the outline. Could you please give me a visual example?

It's nice to hear that you like the grass tileset but unfortunately, with the mostly grey, white and black character sprite, I think I'll have to dial down the vivid green.

Also, that's how the sprites look together (the rocky ground is a rather obvious placeholder).

I like the colors of the grass, but if you should change them really depends on the "feeling" you want your game to have. The current colors could work, if it's a dark drab character in a bright, almost fantasy world, or some such feeling. If you want an overall darker theme, changing them would be best.

For the outline, this is what I meant. I used the dark brown as lighter outline, and added an outline to the hair.

You know, I'm thinking of going for an all-black outline, as I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with how often the character blends into the background.
