Trying to get back into pixel art. I've been playing a lot of WoW lately and I always thought the Tauren looked pretty cool, so I got inspired lol.

Anyway, here's what I got so far:

I plan on using the head as my avatar here once it's finished. The horns look pretty bad, I'm gonna redo those. Suggestions on how to make them look better would be appreciated lol. Also his hair will end up changing quite a bit, maybe not a mohawk.

I know the body looks horrible, it's just a rough draft. I'm not the best at anatomy and proportions.

I'm trying to make this piece (and all my work) look best when viewed at 2x zoom.

All C+C welcome.

trying to get his body right. Made him a lot wider cuz he needs to look more muscular. Can't seem to get the connection between his chest, shoulder, and arm to look right tho. :/

Are you thinking of going more stylised with this or more realistic? It might be helpful to overlay a bodybuilder to get the basic shape of the form.

I just image-bashed some hulk torso and arm stuff and scribbled some legs.

But yeah I always suggest using references and possibly image-bashing to get a good idea of where you wanna go. Never be afraid of using references from life!

Okay, so I tried using your reference (and a few others) and I came up with this:

Thanks for the tip!

Looks way better to me. Probably good enough to go ahead and shade and I can find more errors once it's fleshed out. What do you guys think?

also those lines in his left hand (our right) will eventually be chains. Something like this: https://sketchok.com/images/articles/02-comics/002-superheroes/15-ghost-rider/19.jpg

I put a lot more work into the head, too. And to answer your question, MalevolentMask, I'm trying for stylized. Thanks for asking that, cuz I wasn't sure what looked off about his head. So then I outlined it, and that gave it that more "cartoony" feel.

(oh, and I put details into his axe. Getting the perspective right has been challenging)

So what do y'all think?

I think it currently looks more like an Orc (in terms of body shape) than a Tauren. Make sure to look at a reference while drawing so you know what kind of body shape to go for.

For example:

As you can see, Tauren have a rather hunched posture, with their neck basically being at a 90 degree angle, meaning their head is also practically in the middle of their torso. A mane and/or tufts of hair would also help.
They also have very large hooves and consequently can't wear any sort of shoes or boots, only shinguards.

Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding. The tauren got me inspired to draw minotaurs in general, this is sort of my own take on bull/man creatures lol

But thank you! :)

Did some shading on the upper body and the axe. Not sure what I think about it.

All critique still welcome about anatomy, shading,or colors! (or anything lol)

Oh my lord guys, fabric is hard lol

I'm trying to get his pants to look right and I just can't do it. I'm using this reference:

Any tips on that, specifically?

(also, changed his nosering and belt buckle to silver, like his axe)

I found a few high-resolution pixel art images that have a similar style of pants, if you want to use them as a reference and try to emulate their sort of shading.

Thanks man! That really helped, I think I got it down

I think this is pretty much a finished product. What do you guys think?

It's improved significantly since the initial concept, good job!
I like the use of dithering between the different shades.

It looks better! The chains are a cool addition.

Hey there, looking good! Your dithering is better than mine, tbh
One thing though, the mods hate white backgrounds. Maybe try a light orange color without much saturation, it'll go nicely with the pants without contrasting too much. That way they won't flag it as needing revision, cause everything else is good.

I was planning on making it transparent, actually. Do you think that would be okay, or should I do like you said and make it a color?

And thanks to everyone about saying my dithering is good, I didn't know how it looked lol

Transparent backgrounds are perfectly fine here.
