I really suck at colouring, I just can't get it right I hoped someone here would be able to help out with it.

This is the Line art, copied by me with my mouse from a picture of the FF8 Ifrit.

And this is the colouring by me of said line art.  As you can see, Its my first attempt and I like it as my first, but theres several things that bug me.

The colours are what I wanted, But I'm sure the pallette could be better, and the hair.  Well, I tried and failed, and hoped someone out there could help.

Not bad at all for a first try o.o
You should have cleaned your lines before colouring tough. Check out http://www.spriteart.com to learn how to clean your lines.

Sorry, I'm no use about the hairs

I like the dirty dither style for this one, but i feel theres a lack of light consistensy.. Maybe im wrong but i jus cant figure out wheres the light is coming from. And thats making it look pretty flat.

having a very precise lightsource and stick with it helps to add depth.

But that aside this is a very good first try. Keep it up

The colors you have chosen seem quite unappealing to me. The red is way too saturated for the skin color. The skin color is a red based grey/purple shade, not attractive. I don't quite know what to suggest for color choices!? Maybe look around in the gallery for inspiration.

I think this needs more highlight and a black background. Helm has some good examples.

I think your palette is okay. What your missing is radiosity. For example, the red would fit in more with your image if you applied it to neighbouring areas.
A good example of radiosity is to imagine a bright red ball sitting on a white piece of paper. You'd notice the red from the ball can be seen on the white piece of paper - radiosity!
You've done the hardest part and got an excellent outline. You just need to blend those three distinctive colours into each other using the radiosity method described.

The hair is going to be tricky. I`d suggest looking at Blanca from Streetfighter as a good reference.
