Hello,

I started Pixel Art recently and would like some feedback on my first sprite. It's supposed to be a Gnome/Dwarf with a big nose, just like those dwarfs from Snow White.

The biggest troubles I have is to represent the face, especially with a nose that doesn't look like a smile.

Do you have some advices to improve myself ? :)

Getting small details like a nose right at that scale is tricky, but not impossible:

On the left, I put some shadows on the underside and edges of of the nose, and a white highlight on top. The difference is subtle, but I think it comes across a little more like a round shape. Try playing around a bit more with shading and highlights in the face and see what you can do.

a couple other quick tips:
The contrast between the standard green and the light green highlights is very weak, you can hardly see it at x1 scale. This happens to me too sometimes, since it's easier to see the difference between two colors when you're working zoomed far in, so try using a bit higher contrast shadows/highlights.

For the animation, try making the torso move as well, it looks a bit stiff when the legs and arms move but the shoulders and hips are completely still. I recommend looking up animations from pixel art games you like as reference if you need examples of this.

Thank you for your answer ! I worked a bit to improve that down image based on your thoughts and some of internet's work. I think it already looks a bit better !

I'm gonna work on the other sides and to improve animation and shading.

No need to introduce more colors when the palette is so messed up already  Fix the palette issues, and then just draw a bigger nose when your palette allows that:
