Looks great. Maybe trying a version without any blacks may look better? The grey of the sidewalk looks very flast. With the brick texture some on the sidewalk would balance things out better. Maybe re-visit that ovey saturated green wall too ;) Great structure, it should look nice in isocity.

thank you for your comment! About the sidewalk: Its just the isocity sidewalk, I made it like this to make it fit nice :) About the green walls: You are right, they look weird.. but I have no idea what to do with it.. :(
I allways paint pixel art with black outlines, just because I have the feeling it looks ok, and im too lazy to find out with what I should replace it... With what should I replace it? Just nothing?

I always find that using a very dark hue of the shade you're working with looks great. If you'd like, take a look at the iso stuff in my gallery where nothing is ever outlined in black...I think :/

Hi Lollige,
Come on, don't be lazy and experiment
Try a brown wall. Or replace the wall with bushes. Or put a golf-hole + flag on the grass.
Put people (shades) behind the windows.
Instead of golf put animals on the roof. Go grazy!
Or do a classic version with laundry hanging out for the dry on the roof.
Endulge with your pixel.
I'm looking forward to your progress!
Kind regards from
M.E.

Ok, thats a usefull message
Dont be lazy and experiment: I actually do experiment, for 5 minutes, on a totally new piece, that never gets finished.. Ok you are right, I should experiment some more on work I am not creating just to be never finished... But im allways afraid that when I do something wrong, I loose alot of time.. Also I allmost never save wips, so if I do something wrong, I cant turn it back.. I should save more WIPs I think... Ok ill try to experiment

I dont like the idea of a brown wall, cos there red/brown bricks under it... I like colorfull things :) The bushes idea is ok, I allready thought about it myself, but its a bit weird to put bushes on a roof Ok pixel art is weird, thats what I like about it :), but im not that weird (me as a person is, but thats someting else ) A golf hole?? Ur crazy? But what has that to do with the bushes? Actually when I started I thought it was going to be a fence.. But that didnt turn out that good.. So I changed it.. ok ill make bushes..
Instead of golf put animals on the roof. Go grazy! Yeah animals on the roof.. I wished I could do some normal pixel art too, and draw animals.... :( Going crazy is something I should practice...
Put people (shades) behind the windows. Wow great idea!! (the shades) I was planning to make shops from them, with display windows, but it was too small for it.. but shades of people should be easy! Ty!
Or do a classic version with laundry hanging out for the dry on the roof. hmm thats ok too, but maybe a bit too classic.. Ill think about it :)
Thanks for the usefull tips!!
@ jalonso.. Iv viewed your gallery... but there is a difference between me and you: you are the grand master, im just a noob that just started isometric pixel art.. urs is just another style than mine... Ok ill experiment with it :)
EDIT I did just see I actually did experiment a bit, those windows where totally new for me.. (you can check some old windows on my devART: lollige.deviantart.com)

Hoi Lollige,
Ok, I checked out your ISO build on deviantart and checked the youtube.
You have enough patience to do whatever you want!
If you want to do crazy, I say go for it!
Do what you want to do!
There still remains enough that you NEED to do!
Nice to see Dutch people here as well
Kind regards from

I think you should create your own plant instead of borrowing the default map one.

@M.E. I have never worked on 1 piece of art longer than 3 hours total I think... that vid was done in just 1,5 hours.. and there where alot of things I should have done bether Nice to meet you too
@ feron: I had done a plant and the sidewalk myself, but it looked very crappy, and now its just no part of the building
Ok guys, right now im going to work on it... (both this building, and that illegal car dealer I posted earlyer, where post here when I thought they where finished )
EDIT: here is a blackless image It looks pretty cool

I was not telling you what to do. I was merely suggesting and using my pixels as an example.

I wasnt really able to use it as an example I think, because overall your work is much more detailed (I cant find any flat walls...) but I removed the lines and its alot bether now, THANK YOU

OK I tried to do the people shades, but they where very hard to do and where very unnatural.. I removed them again.. but does any1 has tips (or a template, not to copy but just to watch) for that? Also I tried to make more fuzz (on the house on top, and the hedge) but that did not turn out that good.. All improvements and tips are welcome!!!
Btw I didnt finished the hedge yet, because its not the right way I think.

more textures? I dunno, Jalonso's the master at the iso. I would trust his advice.

Your basic iso highlight scheme seems a bit off. I made a little image to show how you could fix that (the border of the windows is the most off) and how you could apply antialiasing to make it smoother (some say this is a bad practice in iso, others swear by it). You also should add a highlight under the little black line separating the roof of the blue and the blue or give it a shadow to show overhang. In my edit I took it for a mere division and went for the highlight to show it as a little notch in the building.

monkey, that's awesome, place copy in 'tutorial' page.
Even 'betterest' is to highlight horizontal edges with the highlight shade and use the color of tops to highlight the vertical edges.

ah okey, thanks for the tips :) im gonna AA this soon, thats gonna be the first piece where I do that :) but I again have a question: You did highlight a line on "good" thats not a corner or something, its just a line under a roof.. Why is it highlighted?? This line:

I said I mistook it for a notch in the building; I forgot to look back at the whole picture when I was fixing up that bit. You could emphasize its sticking-out by giving it a shadow on the right side; my edit is a bit messed up there.
Good luck with the antialiasing and keep working on this piece. There's no better way to improve your pixel skills than to use them. :)

Last words on Dead thread. I don't see why it was not allowed into the gallery other than the plant is KFejer's and not yours. Actually, I would have sent it back for that :/ I like it otherwise.
