CHALLENGE: Close Encounters

This week's challenge is brought to you by the "Chinese New Year" challenge winner  http://www.pixeljoint.com/p/4718.htm - Tremulant .  Design an alien space craft and its captain and/or crew.

Rules:

  • 16 colours max
  • Canvas must be 64x128 or 128x64

CHALLENGE RULES

  • Participants have until this upcoming Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) to /pixels/submit_icons.asp - submit their entry (strict). Don't forget to check the 'Submit to weekly challenge' checkbox.
  • Only new pixels allowed.
  • Open to all members.
  • Posting WIPs in this thread or in new threads in the /forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=8 - WIP section is highly encouraged, but ONLY SUBMIT YOUR FINAL ART.

CHALLENGE JUDGING

  • Every Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) the previous week's entries are judged.
  • Every week a new voting poll will be posted for previous week's entries.
  • Winner announced the following week.

CHALLENGE PRIZES/GOODIES

  • Top three finishers will receive an award displayed in your PJ gallery profile for all to see and envy.
  • Top finisher gets to call the following week's challenge...sweet.
  • 'Participation' ribbons will be given for all who enter.
  • No matter what happens you get challenged :)

This time is REALLY going to be my first finished non-iso pixel art.. And I know, because I am allmost done now, and this is just a small piece :).. I allways want to start too big.... THAKN YOU CHALLENGE RULES!!!

Ok I still have 3 colors left, I tried to make stars but they did not look very good on it... Lets see if I can think of other things....

ok I think I figured out what chunky means, cos Chunk Is in my dictionary... But Im not shure why its chunky, and how I should fix it .. Please tell me...

Sausage your stars look great, I wont copy them, but ill just look closely how you made them.. Im now going to start on that animation I think... Sadly I didnt work in layers (MSpaint...) so its going to be very hard to animate it..

I always work in MSPaint,  maybe thats why i suck at animation
Anyways,    those stars were the First "Pixel art" i ever did,   (I was 7 or so...)   because i was messing around Zooming in etc..
 
Oh,   and the chunkyness,   is how fat he is....  but i think that gives him a great "Personality" (Fat and lazy,    )

I havent checked entellis' stars, I have only checked yours, and then made mine.. allmost the same like my old one, exept those where yellow... and the idea to make them white blueish was copied from your stars :)

im now thinking of something to make him fly... flames??? I had an idea of some kind of waves coming out of those things, but that would only look good if I animated it.. but I wont... so I need to think of something else... any1 who has tips on flames with only 2 colors left???

@Hairyu: I think it might be the pinks. They really stand out compared to the rest of the image, if you make them a bit more blue/purple, and I think you need to make the background a darker blue.

This is how I see it, but this is just my opinion...

@9_6: Really smooth one. Maybe the lights around the ship shouldn't travel linear to emphasize the roundness.

ok im at a very old computer right now, where paint cant save png's... Yeah imageShack does that for me :)

But I accidently also saved is as a gif.. and a paint gif removes the colors, and puts on the standard paint gif colors... and this is the result :)

Binoculars. But, you're right; that's not immediately obvious.
I may end up altering those a bit, but I think I may just leave it up to the viewer's imagination. I dunno.

Anyway, here's an update:


I didn't realize I'd only used 15 colors, so I AA'd the shadow a bit. I also moved the cockpit back as it had the appearance that the alien was searching his backseat for old french fries.


@Adam: love the idea and the animation.
@9_6: I'm jealous.
@Sausage: Really cool tone and lighting.
@Microradiation: I'm gonna go ahead and assume that the green thing is a pet! :P Cool use of a cutaway. Like the monkey-like creature hanging from the ceiling. Look forward to seeing the crew.
@Ensellitis: I like the second. Shouldn't the ship have a dent, tho?

@ klav The shape's good,   now shade it and fix up those black lines.
@ awesomepossum The top one is cool,   gives the picture an overall "Texture" is the only way i can put it.
@ Ceddo,  Thats one hell of a Cool image.

Sorry,  We must've posted at the same time,    I guess this _Was_ the finished version,  but if you have any Ideas for me to add,   let 'em rip,    I'd love to hear them....
 
I'm currently thinking of making the alien blink.
And/Or making it bounce up/Down...
 
Anybody got any other ideas?

That ship seems awfully familiar to ceddo's....    which is a nice ship btw.
But i'd advise changing the black lines to dark brown.

How can I easy make the background scrolling?? iv made a full background image, and I can put both the alien and the background on a different layer, but its still not that easy

Uh,    It could be easily done,    Just my only thing is im too busy with school work and my picture to do yours for you, sorry.....!

Think how i added the stars to all my animation frames,  I copy and pasted alot!

@jalonso: you  mean it as in "understanding what is that captain" or in "actually seeing that the blue guy is the captain"? Think it would be any easier if it had a neck and shoulders?

Some progress:
I'm not really sure about the colors, it looks a tad dark. The "spacetrain" is a bit static in my opinion. What do you guys think?

Kickass adam,  but i feel it needs a lighter Background,    and something In the background for that matter.
