Hello. It's my first challenge entry, fortunately, last week i thought, that i will do a Half Life 2 room for the joint. Here it is:

I know it has a lots of copy and paste, but this wasn't my first idea, it's just come for the fun...

The pixels have to be made after the challange is announced, or else you have an unfair advantage.
Question: If I have an open door or window and I use transparency, will it show the room behind it or just a blank wall?

there are no windows on the walls, because there is only a wall on the other side. you can put a door, bit it has to be on one of the walls, and no open doors.
pixelblink can clarify this, as he made it, but as far as i know, no to open door/windows.

if the rules dont say animation is not allowed, then it is allowed. if it doesnt give a restriction on colors, then there isnt one.

Cool idea codeone, you might want to try putting a lighter color within those cracks on the bricks so the lines aren't so harsh.
Too bad I suck at iso... =/ ...oh well good luck everyone!

You also might wanna make the thumbs face towards the inside. (It's kind of hard to hold yourself onto bricks with the back of your hand imo) Great idea though, made me laugh a little. :P
Edit - Looking closer I noticed there are in fact thumbs, but I barely noticed them. You might wanna make them bigger. And make the pinkies smaller.

I'm planning on participating, but what are the limits of a "fantasy room?" Should it be themed something like wizards, knights, and dragons, or is that just to let us know it doesn't have to be realistic and the limit is really "the scale of the Joint and your imagination?"

Since the rules just say "fantasy" we could look at the definition
Fantasy is a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genre - genre of art that uses http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_%28paranormal%29 - magic and other http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supernatural - supernatural forms as a primary element of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plot_%28narrative%29 - plot , theme, or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Setting_%28fiction%29 - setting . The genre is generally distinguished from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science_fiction - science fiction and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horror_%28genre%29 - horror by overall look, feel, and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theme_%28literature%29 - theme of the individual work, though there is a great deal of overlap between the three (collectively known as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speculative_fiction - speculative fiction ).
The identifying traits of fantasy are the inclusion of fantastic elements in a self-coherent setting.
Within such a structure, any location of the fantastical element is
possible: it may be hidden in, or leak into the apparently real world
setting, it may draw the characters into a world with such elements, or
it may occur entirely in a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasy_world - fantasy world setting, where such elements are part of the world.
(wikipedia copy pasteness)
There are also a lot of fantasy subgenres
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasy_subgenres
So I guess as long as there is a supernatural/impossible in the real
world thing, it is fantasy, it doesn't have to be necesarily mages,
dragons, faeries, etc.

Fantasy = Based on your toughts So if you think of a room full of scooters, and you are not thinking of it because you have seen one, its fantasy

something doesnt have to not be real in order to fantasize about it. a fantasy can be something you desire or dream about. and last i knew, you can desire something you have seen.

Uh, I've just started it.. it's the scratches... I guess If i find the time beside my daily and other jobs to animate it, I will.. but it's basic idea is to put in a few tables, bookshelves, magical carpet, mystical doors, an old wizard and a witch who are in love. She cookes her meal in one corner and gazes him at a glance, he looks at her as he is making some spell...
Thats the basic idea I've got so far... :)

looking good so far. just make her walk, come through the door, open car door, etc.
also, the car moves a bit up when going through the tunnel. make the tunnel wider and make the car go strait. should be cool if done right

the animation is getting smoother. I will say that having the car come from outside of the template will not work at all though. Also, what the heck is that on the road? train tracks? are they supposed to be skid marks? if so, I'd break up a bit more and make em more random than just a straight line. Also also, there's a black line on the bottom right that appears just after the car shows up. Might wanna get rid of that. Also also also, make it more fantasy like... break up the routine and have a mermaid hooker appear or something

- From outside the template, do you just mean the grey area? Or will the whole concept not work? Where else would the car come from?
- Its a skid mark. I'll going to add some texture to the surfaces.
- Got rid of the line.
- "Fantasy" is quite a vague word, so I used it as a "Sexual Fantasy". Is that ok?
-Thx!

Its iso so its all good for me :D The thing with fantasy is that its relative. To me a fantasy room would be where the walls morph, or has some aspect or fantasy that looks to be based in the real. I can however, see all these takes on fantasy being ok too. As long as its not some living room its cooo.

I had 40 seconds of free time and thought it would be cool to take part. I started so many pieces for these weekly challenges, but I never made to finish one. This time - I made it.
Its an fantasy room, because cars cannot drive in a room. Thats just possible in your fantasy. PM me if you don't get it. Fantastic how I fit to the challenge topic.
Like FrankieSmileShow's piece - this is my first iso piece - well, almost my first. The background cityscape idea is not stolen from Jals Rooftop level.
Vote for me or have bad sex for the next 7 years!

Very nice, but I'm pretty sure the outer walls need to be the same as they are on the template. Only the actual inside of the room can be changed, I believe.

I took a look at some of the previous Joint rooms and some of the exterior walls are coloured, so I think it should be okay--I think it's just a matter of the coloured walls not being visible when they're part of the Joint. Thank you for the warning, though!

I not only agree but prefer it. I always take the 'walls' as a frame of sorts with my pixel art being the art inside the frame. Leaving the frame from template adds 8 colors to the work that are not needed so picking from your palette as you've done is more than OK. You did color the bottom two edges to the edge and removed the wall space there, thus breaking the frame. I have actually thought about this area and think because its part of the architecture, it should remain intact...my opinion and not a written or stated rule...
EDIT: Your room is awesome :D

Thanks! I see what you mean about breaking into the architecture, but since it's not breaking rules I left it because I wanted to give it a more continuous feeling (I trimmed the corners of the pillars that would enter into that area, though). Next time I will leave it plain
