Try this palette. The jalonso said "Make me a palette worthy of manliness" so it was done.

Here is my entry

This palette would be better if it had more even ramping: darkening the blue and grey (the grey and orange are almost the same luminance).
Lollige, the grey in yours is lighter than in PO's palette. It probably has something to do with the PNG format.

how did you see that??
Notthing wrong with my png, I just used the standard mspaint grey instead of the palette one by accident

manliness? looks more like the colours of a little boys room.
I'd imagine a manly palette would include such colours as:
  • blood red
  • sh*t brown
  • bitch's eye black
  • hardcore metal silver
gimme that palette and make a pirate/ninja/Ozzy Osbourne bitin' the head off a live chicken/robot/zombie out of it.

f**k yeah.

(excuse all the profanity but it seems proper for the manly palette thread)

damned straight!

A true manly man would know after a week or even a day to properly use an image tag instead of consistently hyperlinking. Durr.

Your "ramps" make it too easy. (aka a "value" gradient in the HSV colorspace)
This is supposed to be difficult. The whole chalange is depending on hue shifting to get the job done.

This is wonderful!

It's like the palette of bright colors that burn my eyes. Therefore the evil bunny set out to stab it with a disproportioned knife.

It's the new craze that's sweeping the nation:

Yeah.. started off as Jesus on a cross with a majestic yellow background, but then I though 'f that s' and did a pirate.

Personally I don't count transparency as a color. It's more of a 4 component. If you use the RGBA color model it becomes less abstract.
Really transparency cannot be treated like a color because it specifies optical density of pigment. If you want to use full transparency in the challange go right ahead.

For example RGB 255,0,0 is the same "color" as RGBA 255,0,0,.5

but the transparency color is, technically a color, as it uses a 'slot' in the palette, as I see it.

There are two methods: having one or more transparency bits (for mask-type transparency or variable transparency) or by denoting a palette slot as transparent. You can do it either way; one type uses transparency as a color, one may turn a pixel of any color into transparency based on its alpha bit(s).

with this challenge, and by using 2 maps on a model (model consisting of a planar quad) you can use the 5 colours in 5 alpha levels, thus giving a total of 25 ''colours''.

buh.
edit: sadly 1 of the colours (depending on your rendering engine it would be black or white) would mean full transparency, which would change 5 of the colours to full transparent. which then leaves you 21 ''colours''

That would leave you 20 colors, essentially the same as RGBA with 2 alpha bits and a bit of extra rendering code that doesn't increase color count. But enough offtopic; next poster has to have arts.
