This came from some random doodle during math class that I enjoyed. I'm finally able to focus on this piece. It's nameless right now.
I don't know where to go with coloring, it's too plain right now. I already browsed some pics looking for inspiration, but so far it hasn't helped.
And I'm sure it has some other issues. But I like it so far, I want to finish this baby.

Update..

AW it's odd! In a good way. :D It would definitely benefit from some shading. There are plenty of tutorials on pixeljoint to get you started. When you've shaded him post it and we can give you more crit. Right now he looks pretty flat, he needs some shading to make him look more third dimensional. :D

Well, I can't really consider this anything more than a lineart. The shading is way too simple.

Why don't you just try to give it some volume? Post the results here and then we can give you hints on how to improve it

Okay, that makes sense. I should actually try better coloring before asking for help. =)

My main problem is that I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm reminded of when I tried out an art class when I was 11 years old, and we had to draw this apple with shading and all. And with some advice everyone was able to get what they were supposed to do except me. It didn't click in my head or something.
Damn apple. ;-;

Since then I've gained.. some understanding. But I'm still not sure what to do. It's not too bad though, right?

i would have to agree with naso, the tones are too simular to each other.
you cant differentiate them from each other, unless you zoom in.

Okay, I made it more contrasting. I thought it was fine before. o_O It seems too extreme now.

It seems too extreme now? Hardly! It still needs more contrast, maybe your monitor is showing it to be darker than it is. It's reeeally light still which makes it look flat.

I did a quick edit in photoshop with the colours. Notice I have made a hue shift as well? And you had some very odd colours in there as well, some greens that you didn't need.

This is nice.
However:
the shading should make it appear rounder. Right now it is like pillow shaded.
there should be a glint in the eye, unless you are trying to make this a toy. You could also do some light shading on the eyeball.
the cheek shading should conform to the lightsource i.e. be light on one side and dark on the other.
apart from that it's quite alright.
