I usually don't post WIPs, but this time decided to, both because I'm
having some trouble with this, and to see whether posting it as a WIP
would help

I have one of those knives and I love it.
I am having some trouble with the blade, tried a thousand versions of it - with and without dithering, etc.
I think when I get satisfied with the results I'll animate it.
and, btw, holy crap! Look at that thing http://www.wenger-knife.ch/htdocs/images/Pictures/surdoue.jpg - http://www.wenger-knife.ch/htdocs/images/Pictures/surdoue.jp g

I think the knife needs a little more of a point. And the slot
where it comes out of looks a little to dark for my taste. THis
thing looks awsome though. And that knife you linked, that is
crazy, I would never use all of that...

Update: watcha think of the blade now? Not much sharper, but I'm having
trouble at this scale, and the blade's edges have to be round, sh*t.
Lightened up the slot, too, but that meant introducing another color.
Worst of all, the original blades taper towards the handle, but no way I could do that.

yah, and I replaced the pic at photobucket, so the original post is also with the updated pic. Stupid.
btw you think the blade could use some reflections/highlights?

Good so far.
Add more contrast to the blade. Make the darks darker and all that jazz.
And to make it look like it tapers toward the base, just make the outline a bit darker when it gets close to the handle.
...And woah.
Crazy knife.

Nice.
The plastic part could have a bit more of a reflection.

this might sound weird, but try to not have a lighter line on the bottom side of the knife..
see, shading is used to make things appear to have volume, so maybe, just maybe, if you left out the shading.. it wouldnt look as thick? (and thick things aint sharp.. thin things are.. if you dont believe me, take the thick side of a knife across your skin (push a bit) and repeat that with the thick side of the knife)
and in the picture, the knife is pointier too, and slimmer too

(Monstara, when you update your knife please don't overwrite it, so that we can see progress )

Snader, I see what you mean. I was trying to make that 'bevel' the
knife has right behind the sharp side of the blade. But I see it is not
working.
I will increase the contrast of the blade, maybe this will make it clear.

Edit:
Certainly better, but I still have doubts about the blade.
I would really appreciate comments.

Old

and, btw for the body -- my knife's handle is matte, though I've seen glossy ones.

Second edit:
What do you think of the white reflection?

I think you've done a good job so far, very cool. :) I'd suggest a highlight on the red part of the knife. 1 pixel on whichever side you think is best. Sort of an isometric type highlight might make things interesting. :)

Here, I tried a highlight. Unfortunately, it meant adding in one more colour, cause white by itself was too bright.

waddaya think.
I wanna finish this off, finally :D

That makes it look alot better. IMO, it's pretty much done
=) Infact, you inspired me to do a tool as well, I think I will
post it as soon as I get a bit more done
