Pillowshading will never look better. Light from the top or from the front. Right now the wings are lit alright from the ship's front, but the hull needs to be reshaded no matter where light is coming from.
Is the red on the ship supposed to be from the flames' light? If so, you should make the flame look really BRIGHT so it's obviously able to shine on things. Take out the dark red or maybe lighten it some, and increase the flames' saturation. Also, the red pixels above the wings should be removed as I really doubt they'd be influenced that much at their distance from the flame.
As far as ship design goes, the way the thruster sticks out behind the wings looks odd. If it lifts off vertically like a rocket, the wings would be important for stability before takeoff, so the thruster should be nearer to the front of the ship, or the wings should be nearer to the back. The tips are also shaded a bit oddly; the brightest flame-induced highlights should be on the inside (nearer to the thruster) side of the wings but right now they're on the outside. One last crit: The wing pointing to us looks like it's shorter than the others. Lengthen it, I say.
For practical pruposes the ball on the front would break its rod and fall off when you launch, but since this is a pretty cartoony style that probably doesn't matter much.
