Probably not.

I never knew that Vista palette was way prettyer for your eyes!

EDIT: 120x240 is a bit weird for a landscape.. can we use 240x120 too?

It says you can have it landscape/portrait so i guess you can have it 120x240 or 240x120.
I'm stuck for ideas on this!

I'm going to try and do a field scene with a tree and a fence and probably something else when i get there. Nothing too complicated as im new to pixels.

EDIT: So heres where i am so far, you can tell how noobish i am at the moment.
ill clean up the mess when i get there.

I added a stream and a rock for the water to splash onto, but any ideas for the field on the right. As long as you dont say some kind of animal; I'm gonna keep them out of the pic.

My general comment for this challenge is to focus on using the colors creatively. Seems at the moment all WIPs have colors used as you would expect them to be. Club Beuker has the most inspired color use so far.

The angel is injured. She will be eaten by the Nurgle lord and it's an offering from the chaos worshipers.

Wait... don't say... In the rules it's said "120x240" not 240x120. So? Usually we dont say 600x800, but 800x600, not 480x640, but 640x480.  Width x height.
Am I right?

Posted By: surt
Date Posted: 27 November 2007 at 1:37pm
Yes, but then it qualifies it with "landscape/horizontal". Makes a lot of sense.

Posted By: dakael
Date Posted: 27 November 2007 at 1:51pm
It's rather senseless. Talking about sense: saying 240x120 is enough if you want landscape. If you want vertical you say 120x240. Words : "120x240 landscape" are bizarre and without logic sense.

So, afterall... My contribution is correct or not?

Posted By: surt
Date Posted: 27 November 2007 at 1:57pm
You've got a valid point. The rule is nonsensical.

You'd think this would be true but its not. In the US 120x240 is read as landscape but in other places, for example Serbia, its read as portrait. We spell it out to avoid confusion but failing I guess.

jalonso - 120x240 is read as "portrait" here in the US as well

x by y - it should be universal given that's the math standard.

I had started this challenge in portrait view as well.  Might we abandon that "landscape" rule due to the unclear nature of it?

You say it as a forum administrator, challenge headquaters or usual user?
Because I can say too - "Only portrait oriented images count!".

Width x Height is usual everywhere. Did you see in some monitor specification "It could show 1200x1920"? I will answer for you: NOPE. Everywhere is used: width x height. It's unified standard.

Let's show the logic point of view:
120x240 = vertical
240x120 = horizontal
and rules say: "120x240 horizontal".
Hmpf... so in other words: "vertical horizontal". Hooray! Tell me what it means.

Posted By: skamocore
Date Posted: 28 November 2007 at 12:24am
"120x240 horizontal" doesn't mean 'vertical horizontal'...it means 'numbers orientation' I agree that they worded it really badly...but the numbers are just numbers it doesn't matter what order they are in if it is followed by "landscape/horizontal"

Yes, I know you've already started your piece...I know you've put effort into it...and I hope you are still planning to participate and find some way of reworking your piece to fit the rules because what you have right now is starting to look really good

Are we supposed to make a landscape or can we also make a portrait?

I must say there's absolutely no motivation for weekly challenges when you're counting on prizes.

"Top finisher gets to call the following week's challenge...sweet. ". So, where are those people who won and challenged us? Who created rules for this challnge? Which challenge winner? I won "Pixels gone wild" and until now my proposition for challenge didn't show up. It's not so nice... And doesn't give any motivation to continue pixeling for weekly challenges.

dakael,
I have come to admire you, your work and your perseverance in becoming an active PJ member. Especially given such a rough start. I will consider your post/comment to be written in a 'mood' and not your general aptitude towards our (yours and mine) challenges.

Your challenge is in the queue waiting to come up. I am saddened that you have taken it this way. Whenever a challenge is by a winner its always written out, as best as I can recall. When several winners have similar challenges. Say, 'a scene of fantasy' then we move someone up to break the monotony of the challenges. We continue to be learning about the challenges and no one person sets the rules. PJ is pretty liberal and always looks to member inputs.

The purpose of challenges is multi purpose. It can inspire when dry. It can motivate when lazy. It can ease the primal urge to compete. It can kill some time. It can be used to showcase your prowess. Its whatever you choose to make of it.
Any reward associated with it is in the end meaningless because other than bragging rights, you are what you are. Your skills and talent are what they are. The winner is not always the best pixel entered. So many variables enter into play that in the end 'pixel for yourself and share' is the healthy attitude.
Your pixel work is fantastic and all that good stuff, but. No matter what you do and how awesome it is...personally, I would vote for simple pixelly pixels with clever ideas and originality over your pixels 100% of the time. This in no way means I do not like, admire, rate highly your work which is undeniably great stuff. Art remains subjective in the end and 'counting on prizes' is counter-productive to your work and artistic development.

dakael this isn't a popularity contest... (Hmm... thinks for a moment...) Oh wait, yes it is. Scratch that last thought.

Ok time to be serious here. It sounds like you've had a rough day or something. My advice: Take a deep breath, drink some tea/coco/whatever, get some sleep. You'll feel plenty better when you wake up.

Now on a more topic related note... Now that I finished my avatar, unless I start re-working my shadow mage, I can commit to the weekly challenges 110%.

Well... Jalonso, please don't take it personal. It wasn't an opinion to offence anybody, especially PJ headquaters, because you do a good work. Maybe i've written it using too harsh words.

I spoke with another pixel graphician and we agreed that decreasing weekly challenges to monthly/two weeks challenges should improve the quality of pixel works. On other way when I see works made for Pixelween I'm not so sure about it. Whatever... Anyway it's just an opinion that something could happen with weekly challenges.

I'm only saying that some kind of prizes always creates challenge more competitive.

As always - in competition doesn't always win best work. It's absolutely normal. Sometimes easiest pixel which looks amazing knocks down work which creation took hours and days.

Anyway, don't take it personal. I just wanted to create some discussion about possible revolution in weekly challenges. Only a thought...

Can't say more now, maybe later when I'll have enough time.

WIP so far. Ignore the palettes scattered about randomly... :)

Am not sure how the hill in the foreground looks (shape-wise; I know it's nowhere near shaded, haha)... am not sure if I'll keep that or not. There's probably gonna be a rainbow off to the left... Maybe. I have no bloody idea what to do with the blank area on the left of the canvas - might slide everything over, but... yeah, no clue.

So, yah, any input is welcome. :)

Not true, 'never' would mean 'never ever', you've been in 1.

Then why not remedy the situation and enter?

pfft know that I myself pondered the question.
Meditated on it

for MINUTES

and then decided it CLEARLY was meant to be in landscape format

I will refrain from quoting PB.
This is the rule as stated:
'Canvas size - 120 x 240 landscape/horizontal'
not, canvas size - 240 x 120 portrait/vertical.

I misspoke earlier. Because some are coordinate XY challenged the 'landscape/horizontal' was added to the rules of the member who sent this is and sadly went unrecorded.
WHOMEVER SENT THIS IN PLEASE REVEAL YOURSELF (maybe Metaru or Reo).

anyhoo...don't make me come back and quote PB, mkay.

just wondering how you people always manage to get that confused with the rules, even with the most clear and simple ones.

I was going to enter this competition, but came into it a little late and not very successful at what to place as foreground image.

My WIP.

I have all day today off so I might keep plugging away.
