My Mom has a new toucanet so I decided to pixel a regular toucan for her. I'm using Gimp for the first time, not too bad but I'm used to Photoshop. I'm having trouble figuring out the feathers if anyone can help me with that...

I think for the most part you don't really need to articulate the feathers. Toucans, like most birds, generally just look smooth and shiny with a little texture, ya know?
The beak looks kind of flat, sort of like it flattens out as it nears the tip. It looks nice right near the base, but then the highlight color starts to move north. I THINK that's what's causing what I'm seeing. About the flatness. Yeah. ------------- |

I think your red and your yellow really burn; might tone them down a bit. Also, what's going on at the top of the beak with all the darks and reds? It looks like some zany selout or smth. At any rate, I don't think it's working real well  ------------- |
