Interesting idea, but just out curiosity, wouldn't allowing animations on cloth be even more challenging? Animating cloth is no easy task. Like a hero's cape in the wind, or a dress or whatever.

I was thinking the same thing green, it would have been amazing to see an animation of detailed cloth.

Sorry for the animation restriction... there's no real reason for it, it's just a personal preference on my part, as I find it difficult to fairly compare animation to static pictures

I really don't get this....like just make detailed cloth be the main focus of your pixel. I was thinking a sort of like sewing machine on a desk and a really nice cloth next to it...is this what your talking about?
Maybe a teddy bear wrapped in a blanket with its head poking out lol.

That looks fabulous so far, Jal--are you sure you're not a doller who's been posing as an isoist?
Volcom: both of those ideas sound good Just put a lot of focus and detail on the cloth, and you're set!
Metaru: good luck!

Whoamg, we have our winner.
EDIT: Holy crap, if you made that look like a tapestry/rug by having wrinkles or folds or something, I would explode.
EDIT2: Even cooler because you have a detail of cloth on another detail of cloth Z0mg.

Too much? Not at all When I think of classic Indian artwork, there's always so much intricate detailing, colours, and patterns... I don't think you can go wrong with too much.
Small thing: I would make the cloth train a bit wider where it joins the dress, as the cloth is sweeping around her legs.

@volcom, I know this sounds terrible but see my challenge pixel. Notice that its about getting the illusion of ups and downs. You have a good base to work from, just sculpt it more and more, and more and more.
About mine, too much? 3 more colors can be added so I may just add 3 blending shades for the floor and screw the pixelling and sub-pixelling down there : /

*Boom*
EDIT: Too much, are you nuts? It's incredible, I don't really think you need the extra shades, the floor looks fine to me. I love the elephants, and a very nice touch sneaking the Taj Mahal in the back. The trail of cloth looks so silky smooth, I see nothing wrong with this.

Volcom: Like Jal was saying, some more folds and overlapping would add a lot, but it's a good start!
Jal: Looking great! However, the rails in the back look exactly head-on while they're below the vanishing point--I think this can be quickly fixed by adding a line or two of red pixels between the rails, and perhaps making some minor adjustments to the rails themselves. I also may be imagining things--it's 6:25 in the morning, and I'm only on here because I've just called in sick for work. Now back to sleep

I figured this might come up and is one of the reasons I posted my WIP this week. The images below show on the first row shows Indian minuature paintings ,what my entry is based on. These are always 2D scenery with mock 3D figures. I was trying to keep those elements I suppose. I see what you mean and the second row shows the balustrade in perpective. I suppose I can do a mock 3D to tie in the 2D tapestry/fabric frame. But then should I do the filigree arch like row #3?

Heehee, I actually thought that might have been the case, and wasn't sure if I should say anything I think the difference between your piece and the pseudo-3D is that the pseudo-3D has a stylized perspective with kind of flattened characters, while yours is correct perspective with a solid-looking character. I personally find the transition from correct perspective to flat background a little too sudden, but I also think it looks good, so you can decide for yourself if you want to make changes or not . As for the arch, I thought that was more of a thin wooden screen (since there are holes), so it wouldn't have much thickness to it anyway.

Next to redneck psychopath killers, the threat of mid Ukrainian dollers are about as scary. So it might be to all our best interests to let the inner doller come out of the closet on this one, before we all get hacked to pieces by bald Adriana Lima doll bases...the sexiness is deadly.

Welcome to our forum. I think you have a great layout just built for dramatic lighting on all the fabric sources. I am most looking forward to this being developed. Just in case you are new to pixelart. This seems very big (HUGE by pixelart standards) and may be too much too handle unless you are very skilled. If you are newer to pixelart I would suggest you reduce this down to a more manageable size before you begin pixelling.

leel, her left pupil is too little, imo.

I'm in a helping mode today 8)
You may not have a lot of time to edit much but you could just place the cabin/house in the midground where nothing is there now (a composition weakness). The clothing can just be on a clothes line. I would add more depth to the mountain range as I poorly show, just using the sky colors to add depth.
*not orders just c+c, k.

I was just planning on just sitting back and admiring the entries for this challenge, but I went to a bridal show yesterday and I have dresses on the brain... so if I can knock this out in a few hours, I will enter my own challenge Very early, of course:

Pixiedust is all sheer wonder and magical essense on the outside. On the inside a warrior lives :p
