I'm working on my own ROFL fad avatar (even though it's a little too late).  Give me some suggestions...

BTW, can I make an image transparent on Windows Paint?  Yes, I am very low-tech.

Your palette is quite similar to Brian's one. I suggest diversifying. Also, you have some really bad jaggies. Don't anitalias, but smooth out your curves some and fix up dither.

You can't do GIF transparency in Paint, but Notepad should work if you know what you're doing.

You have the coloring style wrong. http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/2295/Propaganda_Avatars.htm - See the project.
btw, these are still used on occasion. It's part of the PJ wardrobe.

You probably cant transparant it on notepad. EDIT: I tought it would not be possible, but if mod says its possible it is. I will search out for you how, it cant be that hard.
EDIT2: It is hard, differences between a just sketched small thing trans and a non trans version are too large

Here is a style study for you from me.

Setting transparency for GIF images in Notepad isn't bad, as long as you understand the file format. http://www.w3.org/Graphics/GIF/spec-gif89a.txt - This document explains the format (you want info relevant for 89a) and you can type characters according to their ascii values by holding alt and typing the character number in decimal on the numpad. You'll have to replace just a couple characters and the character code you replace them with will be the index of the color you want to be transparent (count from zero). A hex editor is even more useful than notepad, but in a pinch, you might have to be able to do this stuff on a bare-bones system.

But if you want to do it without knowing why or how it can be done, use http://www.iaza.com - www.iaza.com or something. Best of luck to you!

Giffy works just as well. It's a very small program.

fyi, for projects. If you don't follow the guidelines set for the project it will not be added to the gallery.
