Okay, so I was bored and Lar suggested I do something pixelly, even though I'm going through a rather pessimistic arty phase right now. I just got started on something for this week's challenge, hopefully I'll perfect it.

It's still in its very rough stages, of course. Right now the biggest thing I'm struggling with is... how do you shade a f-ing lightbulb. XD I wanna say do a bit of cartoony shine on the side but I tried that and it looked fugLEY. So... I'm not sure where to go in terms of shading. Right now it's pillow shaded *blech* but I figure I'd like a bit more input on it before I go further, since I gotta go to beds.

The end result I want it to get a mad face, wiggle a little, and then EXPLODE WITH A BLINDING BEAM OF LIGHT!

Whether I have the skillz to do this, I do not know. But I at least want to give it the ol' college try *elbow gesture*

So... any takers?

I took a lightbulb and looked at it in a dark room/closet after googling lightbulbs, which did not help. XD
You cannot see a lightbulb in a dark room. You really can't. So...I'd say this lightbulb is in a closet, and it's just a little dark so you go to turn it on and such... :)

Basically, gave it a light source, made it generally darker, and didn't keep a set outline.
Oh, and on the bottom/top/the part that's under your mouth, the one that doesn't have metal on it! XD has a little "60 watts" thing or something, so that's why he/it looks like he/it now has a goatee. :P

Edit: Oh, and I made it a bit shorter.

why do i believe that Aleiav version was simpler and nicer? perhaps its just a matter of taste, but the original clearly reads as a light bulb. yours is somehow... unnecesary darker.

about the shadings... well, since its a white one(its transparent version would be a f**king hell to shade). just define the lighsource and shade accourding to it. c'mon, its a pear.

Hehe. :) I think it is taste. I just did it dark because, well, if you put a white lightbulb in a semi-dark room, it's then grey rather than white. XD

My lightest highlight was probably a little too drastic; I probably could have made it a bit lighter in general, though. :P

but the the bulb's nature is white by default. or else, that would apply if Aleiav specifically wanted to portrait it in these conditions(dark room, turned off)

*Nods* 'xactly. It's somewhat hard to blind someone when they're eyes are adjusted to light rather than dark.
But I dunno. XD It's up to Aleiav.

Actually the lightbulb is on, so it wouldn't make sense to have it shaded, which leads me to...

just define the lighsource and shade accourding to it. c'mon, its a pear.

That's the problem... it IS a lightsource. XD *headdesk*

Since it's turned on, i wouldn't give it a black outline. The only way you can really give the impression that it's turned on is by effecting objects and areas around it, unfortunately since it's a sprite that's hard to do. I would pixel the bulb turned off, and perhaps have an animation where it does turn on, then it will be more obvious that it does turn on. You need to make the 'bulb' part of the bulb larger and to round the connection part more. :)

Nice light-bulb! I admire you for making a real one rather than taking the easy  route and making a vaguely light-bulb shaped zombie head instead like me.
