Opacus, that's looking good. Don't forget to put the title in there as it is a book cover. The canvas size needs to be 160x200 pixels 1x1. This is too ensure that everybody has time to do a piece

Thanks. Yes I thought so. I already tried adding text when I made the lines, but I thought I'd keep it at the image first and add the text later.

W00t! This is one of the best ideas for the challenges!
Can't wait to see what everybody does.

Ok, here is how to set the brush for all you GIMP users:

Under the brush box go to create new brush then:

- Ratio 2,0
-Spikes 3
-Hardness 1,0
-Proportion 2,0
-Angle 0,0
-Spacing: 1,0

My gimp is in spanish so I'm translating the terms, they may be wrong but just set the numbers in that order.

Date Posted: 05 March 2008 at 5:24am
Changed my mind, I'm downloading GIMP. :P

Btw Dra_Chan are you sure about that? I got 2x1 With a diamond-shaped preset and

radius: 3,2
spikes: 3
hardness: 1,0
ratio: 5,0
angle: 2,7
spacing: 2,0 oslt.

Anyway I didn't get 2x1 with your numbers. I did something wrong I'm sure, lol.

I think I'm ready to start pixelling now :O

E: WIP

Not sure if I'm gonna finish. :|

I don't know if I have the time to make one (busy school week)  But I think I am going to give it a try ^^ And I didn't see earlier that it has to be about a book... Is it also allowed to make an existing magazine/catalog cover or flyer or something?

Something like http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h212/Varockshade/RSnl%20Forum%20-%20Overige/tamiyacatalog84.jpg - this ?

Only big problem is... I have to replace the greys for some colour of the palette... Or lets say... almost everything... never done that before really...

well try your best to hit the deadline varrock shade, don't let the time put you off starting something, even if you don't finish it in time you're still getting something out of the challenge. I like to see these as good excuses to motivate myself, tbh i've started many of these yet rarely handed something in because I just don't have the time.
goodluck, and gl to everyone sounds like a fun challenge.

I had a go at this today but even after a few hours of pushing pixels I am still having problems finding the right colors for Winston. I'm also having problems with dithering/aa him and I think the whole scene is looking quite uninspired and boring due to a lack of perspective and total absense of any texturing/details on the background and the Ministry Of Truth.

[excuses]Yeah well, I haven't pixelled/drawn anything for a while so I'm out of practice. Damn and it looked so great in my head. :P So well, I probably won't finish this.[/excuses]

Here's my wip version anyway:

EDIT: Added the rocket and moon, looks very elementary >.<
Any suggestions?

I managed to put some more work into mine and I think this is my final version. I will decide tomorrow whether I'll submit it or not.

(actually I never read the book, just saw the movie)
The frowning dude in the lower left is supposed to be Winston. Building in the right is the Ministry Of Truth(inspired by the building on the wikipedia article on it) and the figure in the back is the unknown Big Brother.

Hi Varock Shade,

Before you put too much time into this:

"original cover (no refs)"

Good luck in trying to come up with something
else within the timeframe...

Best regards from

M.E.

Damn, I keep on reading things wrong... *sigh* If I had known that I would already have a finished product... Well, in that case I'll take things slowly and finish it sometime..., I'm not going to start all over again...

I'm not used to the pallete restriction, not even the 1x2 (shouldn't be 2x1?) brush. :P
Meh, I hate how the world looks... :P Uh anyway.

SEE YA!!!!!

Your Earth looks a lot better than mine :p I don't think I'll be submitting my entry either, as it's unfinished and looks terrible anyway.
