I would say, if your skilled enough, that that should be his deep breathing animation, which would be triggered after running, and stop after about 5 seconds. Less heavy breathing would be after walks and standing still. But, you know, whatever.

the ground and box are alright. I think the person and his breathing could use a bit more effort though.

don't be afraid to redraw sprites...

that's something I noticed (and something I used to do, too) among some of the newer guys.  A lot of the time, all anyone wants to do for an animation is move some things around.  Try expanding his chest a bit when he breathes in, as his torso straigthens out a bit and his head moves back, and you could have his head move forward and down a bit as he exhales... maybe you could do some leg movement, too, as he bounces...

Breathing in a ready position isn't just about the arms and head moving.
The whole body could show movement, you know?  Maybe you should add a pause in the peak movements, too... but that might not be necesary if you slow it down a bit.

hope that helps..

the tiles look pretty good!  good luck with this.

Hmm, it's looking good. Although it's quite a 'dark' game. I know it may be night and all. Just when black is put on vast ammount on my computer screen/television for me anyways, i find the game fusterating. (Like doom 3, i know it uses the 'element of surprise' with all the shadows and no lights etc., but it makes it very hard and i usually find myself stopping for about an hour just to give my eyes a rest) Just keep that in mind before you make it too dark...

i think you will find that black isnt used once they are just dark colours,
i have a lighter screen res then most people so ill have 2 lighten it up so
if u guys tell me which bits are too dark cos i cant tell on my screen, so
im guessing the background for a start.

i may redoo my charicter sprite and i need more ideas for objects :/
other than grass and blocks
