this is not pixel art. You need to relabel your topic as NPA please

how is this not pixel art? i did it in mspaint. Oh, i see, i saved wrong(jpeg), and then had to refine it, leaving some unwanted parts. I fixed it.

The main question is do you have the time and patience to make this a pixel art style work at this resolution? That is a pretty big space for anyone to fill using the pixel art style. I would advise that you use something smaller something like standard avatar size might be best.

Well I can honestly say that I doubt you will finish at this resolution. However my opinion doesn't matter if drawing at this size makes you happy. Part of the problem is that you are thinking in terms of outlines rather than midtones. You don't often see lines but rather harsh contrast between shapes that give the illusion of lines.
Look here:
http://imageshack.us">
You won't see lines but you can tell the edges of a face or other shape because there is contrast between the edges. There are no lines showing where my shirt ends but you know my shirt stops because you can see that the background is a different color. The same holds true for faces. You can see my jaw simply because the shadow from the light defines it. Please take some time to study how shadows and reflections make shapes and you will begin to understand how to better shade your face drawing.

You used the spraypaint tool. That makes it not pixel art, for one.

We wouldn't call it pixelart because the full importance of the pixels is not being used in what you currently have shown, and we highly doubt you will be able to do it. It's purely because you have such a huge canvas for pixelart - i know i wouldn't be able to work on something that big. If you're new to the media i suggest you start smaller, to get to grips with the basics and fundamentals of pixelart.

Sometimes it is best to let them try. If one fails then they learn their limits and where they are weak.

in other words you decide: you try and get nowhere with this, or listen us and start with something smaller that could really help you.
besides, how much eforth could this need? you're used the curved line, the flood fill and the spray paint tools. all automated.

Ok first off this is pixel art! Second im with Metaru Start with something simpler it will help you. This is good for a beginer though. Needs more shading on the edges and around the nose 2 also its a bit sloppy around the nose and mouth. take a while and stare it down you will see these things 2

I am so tired of hearing that excuse as justifying that it is pixel art just because you use MSPaint.
First off, it looks like you traced a picture. Second, you used the spraycan, a definite no-no. Thirdly, work on a smaller scale when starting out in pixel art. You'll learn more as you go and can work up to a larger scale later if you need to.

1. i did not trace it.
2. no spray can used, those were left over from my rought fraft and i thought i would keep it there.
3. I thought i'd learn more from making a larger scale.

The only thing you'll learn from making pixel art at this scale is how quickly one can get discouraged. Please please please listen to everyone's advice, even if you don't fully understand it. They're not handing it out just to make you bend to their will; they want you to be happy and satisfied with your art. You will not get to that point with this piece. That's not a comment about your skill as an artist; it's that no one could! I honestly can't think of a single piece in all of PixelJoint that's nearly as big as this, and some of the best pixel artists in the world post here. It's just bad news making pixel art at this size.
Just always remember that the people advising you are looking out for you. There's no ego stroking going on here. People want you to be happy with your art, and to grow as an artist; that's it.
EDIT: Just properly read the whole thread. Great critique, P_O. Post here more :O
EDIT2: And now that I think about it, I guess there are a few iso pieces that beat this in terms of size, but that's kind of a different thing altogether.

size isn't a restriction when you know the basics. you can't build a city if you didn't know how to put two bricks together.
Its up to you. either take the advice wisely, or be another example of an epic fail.

I thought the huge head at the top was more handsome looking, but yeah, you could learn more and make it better with the smaller one.

Yeah I did, I didn't mean it as if it was well made, I meant to say that the huge npa head looked handsome, it has good facial features.

Could I print the NPA head at the top and use it as a paper mask? I'm sure all the girls would dig me with that on.

thats way to big to be done as a nice pixel art, especially for some1 whos new to it, try to start with something small and simple. and try to lay off using the line tool for you final outlines
