that's looking nice setzer,
I have a question...the DEGREE of depth doesn't matter to the piece right? by that i mean, doesn it matter if the piece has a large or small DoF?

As long as it plays a major role in the image. >_>

Hmm, here's mine thus far. Not sure how exactly it will turn out as of yet, but however it does, I hope it'll turn out looking somewhat decent.

Not sure how many colors I have used so far since I'm just winging this with the colors. By the way Setzer, that is looking flippin' sweet. I love that dithering you have, it has a good texture to it.
Edit: Just lost a lot of progress because my dad was messing with the breaker while I was at school and my unsaved work was lost. So I'm on a set back now. :\

I'm never going to get this done in time, especially what I actually wanted to do with it.

I originally wanted to start out with the cheese in focus, and the rest of the picture unfocused. Than shift focus to the mouse, then the cat. When I realized that I wasn't going to have time for that, I thought maybe I'd just pixel the cat slightly out of focus. I've discovered that pixelling out of focus is a lot tougher than I thought, so for now, I'm just trying to finish something since I actually thought the mouse came out pretty well.
UPDATE:

old_flick: one idea is to do each part of the image in a different sized brush (1x1 for the cheese, 2x2 on the mouse, 4x4 on the cat, as i executed in my sh*tty example) then go back and touch up bits and pieces, as right now the amount of detail is the same on everything. so basically you'd want to kill the detail on things
my hasty overpixeling;

I saw this image on deviantart just after reading the challenge info
and thought I would it a try... not too happy with the outcome - mainly
due to the colour choices and the eyes that got over exaggerated...
