Working on a new game project, for the first time in a long time, feels goood . So getting to work on the player ship sprite. It's going to be fairly complex with a fair bit of animation, but I think it will be extremely satisfying and rewarding when its done.
Basically the plan has 3 states, and here they are:

EDIT 4:

   State 1
  State 1 to 2 to 1 transition
   State 2
State 2 to 3 to 2 transition
  State 3

The yellow pieces are like powerful enegy blade sort of things, btw. So what do you think? I'd like some heavy C+C. If theres no real problems I'll go ahead with animating, thanks in advance

Well I started animating. Had the most rediculous arduous time trying to export to animated gif!!! If anyone knows a good animated gif program please tell me I almost went insane.

So heres the first animation, a banking animation of mode 1, any crits?

Looks sweet. Seems like you got the hang of the angle and the light source is perfect imo. I use Graphics Gale for animations :P Pretty easy program to follow.

Thanks . I had a look at graphics gale but you need to register to be able to export to gif, which is just stuuuuuupid.

Hehe, thanks dude. I sort of lucked upon that sloping when I was fiddling with the shading early on and I was like "ooh that makes them looked sloped, I think Ill keep it ".

I love these. :O
I made a little shoot-em-up mock-up and made little animations for it but they certainly weren't on this level.
The only thing I can suggest is to make a state 1 to state 3 animation unless you have to cycle back and forth through them in order.

Let me start by saying these are fantastic little things! Hopefully you will continue the project, as I'll be there following it.

Crit-wise, in the State 2 to 3 animation, the lighting changes on the wings during and after the animation. The light is on the left when transitioning, the light is on the right after the ship is complete.

Hmmm, I was thinking about that. At the moment I just have it play both transitions right after eachother, which is like 18 frames or something...But I'll consider it, hell more opportunity to do cool plane transforming is a gift horse I dont look in the mouth.

I really really hope I keep momentum on this project. I've got someone else I'm working on it with, and this is like my first proper recreational team project so who knows maybe I'll actually see this finished. How its planned its a looooooong winding treacherous mountain road of pixeling to the top, hehehe.

I think I know what you mean about the lighting. Do you mean specifically the right wing during the middle of the animation or both wings towards the end of the animation?

Oh wow, these are a lot of fun. The banking animations are fantastic.

State 2 to 3 transition looks a bit off to me right around when the wing's weapons pop out.  It just looks like they are growing rather than popping out.
