I've got some good stuff going already. 16x16 sprites, four shades of green. It's really fun to work with. Here's my problem though. I can't get the main character's run sequence to look right.

So far, I know I should make the body move, but I don't know where to put the movement. Should I just make him bob up and down, or should I make him lean forward? I need help with this.

The sprite:

Edit: I redid it a bit. I think I overdid the gun movement, but how do the legs look?

As always, thanks for your help.

Hm, I think the top one looks better! The legs on the last one looks entangled! :D Normally you move the body up and down when you run due to the extention/retraction of the legs!
Look at this example:

Hmm. I see. I changed it a bit, and I think it looks a bit less tangled. It's harder with only three colours (Fourth is background), because I can't change the back leg's colour to a darker shade. Anyway, I kind of have to fix the moving up and down thing, so he doesn't look like he's having a seizure.

Is that any better?

Edit: I've decided to go with the four frame run cycle to make it easier to animate everything else in the game.

Here's a zombie!

Yeah I think he feels more alive now!
However normally the movement of the upper body is actually in the pelvis area, and he shouldn't jag like that, Keep him down as his feet meet in the middle and when they are extended he should bounce up!

Well, I did a little more work and threw together a no-backgroundy-mockup.

I think it looks alright, despite the lack of background. Feelings?

do you use these colors?  If not, you should, gives it a MORE gameboy look then it already has.

I love anything retro so keep up the good work

The jumping animation don't really look like a jump. His feet shouldn't be touching the ground i guess...
