Does the shadow created, need to be a reflection of the thing that made the shadow?
So, like.. if it's a tree.. Do i need to do the shadow as a tree, or can i make it look like something else?
I'll most likely be entering this :D Awesome Competition, good excuse for me to do some pixeling.

I took the term shadow "play" to mean whatever you want. My shadow will definitely be skewed.

guys, there is a difference between casting a shadow and having a silhouette. please don't waste time pixelling the latter as it will not be accepted into the challenge. There challenge is clear and even shows examples so I don't understand how some of you are getting it wrong.

An image of a silhouette casting a shadow. Pixel the SHADOW not the SILHOUETTE!

Cleaned it up a bit (damn, I left a bit more defined version at my workplace):
What do you guys think: Is it understandable with the shadow cropped?

From the Merriam-Webster dictionary:
Shadow: partial darkness
or obscurity within a part of space from which rays from a source of
light are cut off by an interposed opaque body
Silhouette: a likeness cut from dark material and mounted on a light ground or one sketched in outline and solidly colored in

Not really a 'rip off'. More of a reference pic, and it's just that, because it's not even traced.

Hey cthulhu!
It seems you may need to give her a shadow on the back wall or it will not be accepted...

It's not a rip off, just inspiration. Totally different angles and emotion from the ladies. Why is everyone sooooo into calling people rip-offs?
The great thing about art is being inspired by others, by nature, by life.

hmm sorry, I though ripoff was nearly the same than inspiration >_> my bad.

@Cthulhu
You'll probably still get red-flagged for that, simply because it's attempting to be realistic but is impossible. The only way you'd get as clean a shadow as you've portrayed there is if you had an ENORMOUS spotlight (bigger than the chick herself) projecting light straight at her, at an incredibly high intensity. Or if she were like an inch away from the wall.
What I suggest is keeping the same idea (naked chick shadow) but playing it in a different way. For example, pretend the girl were walking in front of her window with a light on inside, casting an enormous shadow of herself on a nearby building.
Or keep what you have now, but make an animation that pans to the right to reveal that the shadow is being caused by a towel hanging off a broom or something.
I don't actually have the power to say "You can't submit that for the competition", but I'm just going by the hunch that you won't be allowed to.

Really, if the original image of the woman were partially visible, so as to give the illusion that she is indeed really close to the wall, then the sharpness of the shadow would be accurate. I would totally give that one the benifit. But thats just me
