I would like to start a thread for the 1960's and 1950's character style. You know the surban folkes with meaningless smirks and hair parted on the side stuff. Like Dick and Jane style people. I can't find any referance pics though....Any one interested? Do you know the style i mean?

like the dad in the picture only with three colors, black orangeish-brown and white like an old how to pamphlet.

Anyone interested?

Well, calm down everyone and don't mess up with Ensellitis, he's cool.
I think the 1950 idea is great, Im a fan of fifties advertisment and like some of the songs from the era. I made some simple lineart to have a start. For coloring 3 colors - thats hard I think, but I wait to see how others handle things.

That is soo cool!!! Can't wait to see it colored. The reason i said three colors is that the old textbooks only used black and another color toner.  I think this type of Americana is fun to play around with too, happy pixeling!

Depending on what "style" you are going for depends on the production rate it would have been made in.  Mass produced art (Comic books, text books) would have little to no shading, a very limited amount of colors.  Something less mass printed (Movie posters, Art Prints) would have more shading, but still a limited amount of colors.  Mostly due to the printers of the time, I would say to keep the colors down to 16, and if you shade/dither, only use 1 color to do that with.
