Oh, cool. I needed a new avatar, and now I can do it at the same time that I join the challenge.
The 16 unique frames part might be a little hard though... Oh well, I ll think of something. :P

Ok this is a super duper awesome challenge. No transparency is a major bummer indeed though.

I have a question, an alpha blend would constitute as transparency and is therefore not allowed, correct???

@MFlanga: No semi-transparency/alpha blends - not even for normal gallery pieces.

@generatedanomaly: looking awesome so far. No trans means you should think about how you're going to use the whole canvas. Make him crawl over some grass or some brinks...or someone's face...etc...

@susuwataris: looking good, just make sure you play around with the timing of each frame. Some of it comes of as being in slow motion.

Lahra, Nice. But, what will you do for the other 8 frames?  Needs 16 at least.

Not to mention the fact that they need to be Unique.

Wow, so many entries so far. :P
I couldnt think of anything to do though.

But usually the challenge thread would already have two pages by now. And this one has less than 10 posts.

Can we have more than 16 frames, but repeating? Like 32 frames, but acctually ony 16, repeating and coming back.... ?

Date Posted: 24 July 2009 at 12:36pm
Yeah. Its at least 16 unique frames, but there is no maximum amount. You could have 100 unique frames if you wanted to.

Oh... I guess that makes it easier then.

This is mine, it has 48 frames, every frame is fully AAed and it has 5 colors.

;D Looking cool. The melting part could use some extra frames. Right now it's looking a bit jumpy.

I hope you like it.

What I have so far. Exhausting work to make each frame -.-"

As you see it, the animation is not as smooth as it should be. There is an important difference between what I obtain when I animate my frames on imageready, and the final result what you're watching here (although I choosed the minimum duration in image ready).
DOES SOMEONE KNOW HOW TO REDUCE THE FRAME DURATION IN THIS CASE ?! It would be very nice to share your knowledge ^.^ (maybe I should use another software ?)

Manjaman, that's impressive!!!
Gosh, I thought I would win! :(
I've just spent weeks days on ImageReady, I hate that stuff. It is just as tricky and unfriendly as Photoshop is friendly and untricky.
I thought I had found its nastiest traps, but no, several more sprang under my poor pixels just tonight. Grrr.

OK, I looked at your anim. Loading it in IR, the frames are timed at 0. I don't know exactly what it means by that, because it sure is not instant; I don't think it is the right way to make it fast.

I made 3 edits, at 0,01 (lowest possible after 0), 0,03 and 0,05s.

Viewed in ACDSee (which is a bugtrap with anims anyway), 0,01 is really fast! (when 0 in fact is not); 0,03 is fast but smooth (sometimes), maybe what you need; 0,05 is about what you did.

In Firefox3 though (esp mine which is ultra-slow), it has problems with 0,01, but 0,03 is perfectly smooth (I guess this has to do with their lousy useless pixel-killing interpolation, discussed elsewhere). Let's see if this confirms after uploading these.

0,01:     0,03:     0,05:

Well, on the prieview it's really FF3-choppy... I'll give it a look in IE - I very much hate Mozilla for having to write this.

Well I'm getting depressed now... In IE6, they all look exactly alike, including yours, and they're all synchronized even though they are not the same duration!
And, when copied from the page and viewed again in ACDSee, they act just as they did before I uploaded them.
I just don't know how browsers work. :0

Fantastic, I think I'd be able to make something cool with the 0,03. Thank you veeeeeery much, you're my saviour !
(EDIT : the 0,05 duration seems to be quite good for the effect I'm researching. Once again, thanks Manupix !)

Just opening my computer, I see the results as I guess they are, before FF had the time to go crazy.
Not too surprisingly, 0,01" is too fast for it, and it slows down so much calculating it that the result ends slower than 0,03 or 0,05, and choppy.

I've even seen some too fast anims seem to go backwards.

In fact, 0,01" would be even too fast for any screen, come to think of it!

The final result will appear approximately like that :

Don't worry it was planned since the beginning (I have proofs ^.^)...

EDIT : Ok, I think it's finished -.-"
Tell me if you see some mistakes.

Looking great. This challenge is yours.

Btw, I think it cant be played the way it is on image ready because there is a max speed on most browsers, or something.

Lucas: Yes, Manupix said it before, but my problem is completely resolved.
