The first PixelJoint collaboration -- huzzah!!!

Pick a piece of the body -- head, torso or legs and just pixel away. Use any style, technique or colors you like (no more than five or six colors per section please).  Feel free to vary the shape, but make sure the joining sections work together.

Post your body parts here and a "stitcher" will put your work together with other body parts to build unique Frankenstein monsters! If you are too busy to do a whole section you can pick a smaller body part from the second template.  You can also do a combination of parts like hand/arm/shoulder or arm/shoulder or shoulders/torso. Submit as many pieces as you like.

No matter what pieces you decide to work on make sure the joining parts (the green lines) for your body part match up to the template!

Have fun!!!

Stitchers: iSTVAN, sedgemonkey
Idea: DragonSoar

So... Are there going to be more than one Frankenstein? Like when person 1 starts doing a hand, and a person 2 comes in and does a whole torso, will person 1's hand be trown away?

I think I'm doing a right arm.

Yeah, people should post here what they're going to do first, otherwise there are gonna be double body parts...
Anyway, I'd like to do an arm too. A left one that is, since Brian will do a right one...

"Post your whole body part here"
Ok.

I finished the left arm:

Or, to make it easier with the 'stitching', here's the arm without the body template.

I'll mirror mine.

I don't think it's a major issue if we have a bunch of the same body parts.  The more parts we have, the more combinations of monsters we can make.  I don't want people to feel limited to just making one part.

Hm, how about having a bunch of possibilities for each body part, and then making a program to automatically build a monster by gluing them together ? :)

Maybe I'll put that option together in Flash.  Depends on how much work is needed to get the parts to fit together nicely.  Some body parts might need some overlap to fit in correctly.

Its a nice idea, but probably not worth your time sedge!

yeah, too much time for what it would be used for

As long as there's no overlap issues it's actually pretty easy to do a monster maker in Flash... you just have to define snapping boundaries for each body part.

Added this post to pixelation as well so hopefully we can get a nice big group of body parts to chose from when compiling the monsters. I plan on making some feet... not that I have a foot fetish or anything.

Thx mates.  Anybody want to make a crotch or legs?

Nice sig pixelblink you twisted freak.

Here's a leg/crotch combo with some extra tentacles for good measure.  Wanted to demonstrate that body parts can overlap.  The arms can go on top or behind tentacles in this instance...

Date Posted: 13 March 2005 at 2:24am
The 'cut' tentacle looks disturbing...

Anyway, I'm surprised that no-one has done an attempt on a head yet. Maybe I'll give it a shot.

Looking good.  I like how the toothy grin pushes the cheeks up.

One thing I think we forgot to address was light source.  I guess we can just flip any body parts to match with light coming from left or right.

Well, the lighting ain't gonna be perfect no matter how well we set it. We just have to do our best when slapping em together and hope no one notices.

Sucks that pixelation went down... there were a few body parts that were posted up there too. Oh well.

Hello there, this is my first post here and when I read this thread I felt like doing a head, I hope this is ok.

Cheers.

[EDIT] I updated my head to match the colors of the legs. [/EDIT]

slasher:  Good job putting it together.  I think greyscar meant it looks messed up because it's a freak -- not that you did a bad job putting it together.

Idden:  Nice... can't have monsters without the occassional cyclops.

Demon:  Don't worry about mirroring the body parts.  One foot is good enough.

Date Posted: 24 March 2005 at 10:30pm

Hey i like those feet, may be you can add some slim

I did the left legs, there is two versions:

Did someone start working on the flash thing to view the monster ?

I saw a "dolling" Flash script somewhere... maybe Kirupa or Flashkit.  Once we get a larger pool of body parts I'll put some effort into finding it (I'm much too lazy to write it).

Posted By: Idden
Date Posted: 24 March 2005 at 10:57pm

Allright, may be I will try to create a "dolling" program if I got time, it could be a good exercise for me.

It's still going... Pixel Joint will soon have a "project" page that explains all the different templates. It'll make it easier to submit finished pieces to the different projects and easy to keep track of. So far we have...

  • L'il Dudes - Template created by PixelPusher
  • The Joint - Iso rooms created by pixelblink and others
  • Pixel Frankenstein - Monster body part template

You can't link to files stored on your PC... you need to upload them to the web so other people can see the image too.

You need to restart it... make sure each person only does a single outlined piece.

Then set it up like the exquiset corpse. Where each person says they have a part done and they send it to sedge, then he posts it here so know one knows what everyone else was doing. Its not supposed to flow, its supposed to be fun and diverse.
