PJ & DA present

Since All Hallows Eve is coming up soon, we have decided to hold a contest in conjunction with the folks over at http://www.deviantart.com - deviantART .

The contest is pretty straight forward. Create an scene from or inspired from your favourite Halloween/horror themed movie in the template provided.

To participate, rules are as follows

  • create a complete scene from or inspired from a horror movie of your choice. Think of the template as a movie still that will be connected to other entries.
  • pixel art only! If you are clueless to what pixel art is, you probably should not participate.
  • animations are okay
  • no more than 32 colours
  • multiple submissions are allowed
  • anyone submitting must have an account at deviantART and post their entry there as well (if you don't have one, sign up now!). Make sure your PJ account has reference to your dA account so we know who to award the prize to.
  • contest ends on October 29th and the winners will be announced on October 31st (Halloween!)
  • do NOT contact me to tell me you've submitted an entry. All entries will be seen in the pixeljoint galleries in the proper category when approved.
  • Remember, it's QUALITY not quantity. Not all pieces are approved at pixeljoint. Take part in the forums to help build your entry up to win!

Prizes will come along shortly once I get the word from my dA homey, http://www.halfliquid.deviantart.com - halfliquid . Rest assured though, there WILL be prizes from deviantART.

Good luck to everyone!

rules are subject to change during the course of this contest

Hi, will there be a special category at deviantArt or should everyone post their result within their own da gallery? Will less than 32 colors help a scene to get a higher rating?
oh yes, nice idea folks.

There will be a Contests category made up soon at dA. You may post it now if you choose to do so but it's a good idea to change categories after it is made. Remember to post it in your gallery here as well!

Lesser colours might change the outcome of our decisions. I am sometimes amazed as to what peeps can do with minimal colours.

Good luck!

I don't see anything on DA. What gives?

Thanks guys :)

So-lou: wish you'd reconsider still and do up a Chucky scene for this!

Sedge: Halfliquid put it up in his journal for now. He is talking to blackice to get it up in the contests section and organizing prizes... .I've suggested a print of the contest submissions altogether as one of them.

Wow! I've little to add to the competition concept, and I'm not sure if I'll have the time to enter either, but that WIP is probably your best work I've seen PB! I'm impressed, as I already regard you as one of PJ's best iso pixellers! Looking forward to it's completion.

Grea job so far everyone. I'm too hesitant to even enter when there's such an amazing batch so far with these three.

I was considering doing mina or jekyll/hyde from leage of extraordinary gentlemen...would that be on the verge of not counting? hmm...

this is 2/3 done, ahhh gd ol' shining, 32 colors excluding the template

So-lou: Sweet work. I especially like how smooth youve gotten the skin without resorted to dithering.

One thing that popped out at me the first time I saw this was the woman's right breast (her right). Regardless of the tattoo, it looks looks rather odd. As if youve shaded it as an entire breast, rather than making it flow smoothly into the clothling. I circled the area in question: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v64/istvan/breast.png - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v64/istvan/breast.png

Overall it now seems as if it is far smaller than it's counterpart. I think the only answer is to make it less rounded, as to suggest that it flows into the dress more appropriately. Get me?

Its hard to pick between them. I think I like the second one slightly more, the blueish tone really suits it. But the first one makes it look a little darker, perhaps fitting with the horror theme more.

Haa, I was about to post this in the gallery until I thought to look if you'd posted it here.

I love you guys. XD

Question: would pixeling dr. jekyll as depicted in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen count or not?

I was working on Mina, but I think the angle of her face is too adventurous for this contest and will continue the wip in the wips section, but pixel jekyll for the contest. Yes indeedy.

that film was alright but jekyl in that film was a good guy and its not
a horror film anyways. sorry to birst your bubble but u could do a
scene from the original

Posted By: pixelblink
Date Posted: 11 October 2005 at 5:46pm
Yeah, I'd much rather see the original as it was more of a horror movie than LXG. Also, the monster part was Mr. Hyde... not Dr. Jekyll

You know, I'm thinking about entering too... Shaun of the Dead would be considered a horror movie too, right?
Heh, I'm just crazy about that movie... yesterday I watched it for the second time.

-------------

Posted By: iSTVAN
Date Posted: 12 October 2005 at 7:22am

I don't see why Shaun of the Dead shouldnt be considered. After all, it is a 'Romantic Comedy with Zombies.' Twice? Haha, I've seen it over half a dozen. If you choose a particularly scary scene than you should be fine, especially because most (if not all) zombie movies I've seen have included their own brand of twisted humour whether in large doses or not!

...

...

But check with PB to be sure

Carp/Pie:  IMO as long as there's some scary element to it. Metropolis and Shaun of the Dead definitely have some spooky parts.

Oh, no bubble burst, just a query. I thought as much, which is fine and dandy. ^_^

And yeah, i know Mr. hyde is the monster, but I was going to do both when I thought about it---yeah, if I do I'll go for the oringinal..or think about something else entirely..of which I thought about first and was sidetracked.

great entries so far.

Now I just need to find a reference image... I'm probably doing the part where Shaun, Ed and Liz are behind the bar, hiding from the zombies (whoops, I used the z-word).
