Hi guys.

I've made a bunch of 16x16 sprites in the past, mainly for a few games that still aren't completed. A few days ago, I decided to try to make something higher res than 16x16, just to see if I could. So I pulled the Space Pirate sprite from Super Metroid, studied how they managed to make it look good, and then tried my own.

I've submitted one tiny animation to my gallery already, but here's a WIP of a walking animation:

Ignore the Rayman-esque qualities, that's the WIP part :D. I just wanted to get the torso/face right before I moved onto the fun fun of the arms/legs.

And then there's my other WIP, my girlfriend drew a picture and for V-day I decided to secretly sprite over it and animate it. So far I only have a tail swish, but I'm working on more. The shown tail swish will not be looped in the final piece, so do not worry that it looks too extreme. Is it neat so far?

Let me know what you guys think. It's nice to have something to post on this site, I've been secretly following it for a while :D.

Shroom looks funny. I don't get why the white spots shift shape, is it intentional? Light could improve, looks a bit pillowish.

Girl has potential. I usually crit work for being too large, but it this case it might be too small for the degree of detail which seems present in the original drawing (could you show it with better res?). Looks like you have some experience, a 150x200px canvas (or a bit more) shouldn't be too much for you to handle. Work on light too, before thinking of animating!

Welcome to PJ! Enjoy your stay (but don't drink the water!).

I'd follow your girlfriend's shading a little bit more. Right now the lion-ram looks really blobby - look at how, on the original, the shading on his bangs makes it look like they're two sections of hair that fall flat in front of his face, where with yours they're some nondescript orange element that stick out to the sides. Same thing with the fur hanging off of his arms - having the section of light at the top of the arms drop straight down makes it look like he has fur hanging down rather than being a giant poof.
