On September 7, 1986, the world was given a gift. It was a boy-king, they say, that would soon rule the world with his might, speed, patience, and love. To this day, The B.O.B. still doesn't know who the hell they are talking about, but what he does know is that he shares the same birthday as him. The B.O.B. was raised in a small town in West Texas. He had an average life, with not too many bad tragic events to keep him down. Where most would be bored in this tiny town, B.O.B. decided to make use of his free time by drawing. And so from then on, he kept drawing and drawing until one faithfull day, a computer was brought into his humble home. B.O.B. looked at the computer and tried it out for the first time. Bored with solitaire, he searched for other programs to mess around with. Soon he found the love of his life: MS Paint. And so, the two united and he kept drawing with this program until he began to show some progression. Pretty soon, he began to get into fighting game sprites, and he used the internet to search if others like himself knew how to draw them. What he found would be the start of his pixel life. He stumbled across a little site known as Pixelation. Being an extremely shy person by nature, The B.O.B. was hesitant to join. But hesitance cost him dearly, for as soon as he decided to stop bieng a lurker, and become a member of this great website, it had already shut down, leaving B.O.B. alone in the dark again. But fate was on his side that day, as he searched for other pixel sites, when a tiny, shiny link caught his eye. That link would soon be known as his safe haven from the terrors of the internet. And that safe haven's name was aptly named Pixeljoint.com. For long last, The B.O.B. was now happy again to finally be apart of such a glorious membership of others who understand his views on pixel art.
The B.O.B. enjoys the simpler things in life. Some would say he is quite boring, while others closer to him might say he is a tad crazy. Being a true West Texan, he still can't get over the fact that his high school football career is over. Due to this fact, it's perfectly normal to see him slip in a little football fact every chance he gets. As far as music goes, he seems to lean a little toward metal, and rock. He is currently attending college, and is quoted as saying, "Good God, why did I frickin' pick this major." (speaking of his computer science major of course). As far as dream goals, The B.O.B. is about ready to just quit the CS career, and go for his true love, illustration, and animation at an art institute in Texas.
One who searches in the B.O.B.'s gallery will notice that he seems to have a certain style. To be precise, it isn't as perfect as others he shares the site with, but rest assured, he will try to make sure that you will like it by the end of the day, none the less. So far his best known works are his mario animations, and a portrait of Joker, a character from D.C. comics.
His favorite pixel artist's include the living legends; Fool, Niss, Stoven, Splat-pixel, Faktablad, and countless others. With such great pixel artist's around PJ to learn from, it's no wonder why the B.O.B. will continue to grow and learn as an artist. His only question to anyone looking at the site is, "Whats stopping you from joining?"

The B.O.B. @ 11/20/2009 8:07:14 PM commented on Dogs characters Yes, I can tell you'll make a great addition to the site; love your clean style. However, the site doesn't allow submissions with plain white backgrounds for quality sake; can you please transparify the backgrounds of your pieces that aren't scenes? Once this occurs, we'll submit these entries into the gallery for you. Oh, and welcome to Pixeljoint! : )
The B.O.B. @ 11/19/2009 3:28:23 PM commented on tabby street fighter looks to me as if you used Sakura's original sprite, and reduced the size, and worked/edited over it...which is a no-no here...only submit your own work, no edits please...

The B.O.B. @ 11/18/2009 11:30:39 AM commented on Big Bird @Tomic: I agree. However, most of his negative crits seem to be childish responses or backlashes towards mods sending that user's own pieces back for poor quality; hence his ongoing attempt to try and call poor quality or work on every one else's pieces to make him/herself feel better. Still doesn't change my opinion of the user in question's works, and I will continue to keep sending that user's pieces back if they are done along the same lines of his prior pieces(border-line hentai, poor anatomy, less focus on pixel art and more on oekaki, unrefined lines, etc...). So for now, just forget about it, and the mod squad will be sure to watch this person a bit further, and if he continually breaks the "don't be an ass" rule, then he will pay for it...BY THE MIGHTY THOR'S VERY OWN, BAN-HAMMER!!!1!
The B.O.B. @ 11/17/2009 2:01:57 AM commented on Deadhed The piece WAS originally sent back for general quality standards. However, Pandafox submitted it back with new background, and the userbase voted enough points for us to notice, and submit it in. In my honest opinion, I think the piece still lacks severely in form, volume, and several other facets of artist merit, and hovers over a more abstract form that I'm not too fond of. If you were to take this piece, and color reduce it to a couple of colors, one would be able to see how bad the form of the skull is, almost comparible to that of an upstart artist, aged almost around 8-15 years of age...(don't take this as an insult, just a critical observation...) But although I voted against it(I'm not shy about my opinion), enough of you felt compelled to vote for it; and being a fair site, it was decided to let it in, as we care about your votes. The thing I find funny is even when we decide to give something a chance when people complain about it's inability to access the gallery, once we decide to let it in, than minds change and decide to argue to send it back. Can't please everyone....
The B.O.B. @ 11/16/2009 4:56:19 PM commented on Deadhed I agree as well, Blackbeltdude, the only issue is most of the time, people who use auto. tools tend to "overuse" them. ie, the lack of technique is covered by what the machine is designed to try and control...but by the human eye, we can tell when this happens; and this site is NOT about to let you guys cheat yourself on making great art. I'm fairly certain that some more popular users DO use auto tools, but the point is they use it to the point where clarity and control is definitely seen. Sadly, most demosceners back in the day lacked severe technical prowess(anatomy, form, you name it), but they tried to make up for it, in pretty designs, and flamboyant colors. Some were great in the technical portion, just not enough...it came and it went... The difference with Pixeljoint, is we have already came; but we sure as hell aren't leaving.
The B.O.B. @ 11/16/2009 3:12:32 PM commented on Hexod I agree, the "o" of the piece screams it was automatically done...and if it was done by hand, I don't understand the need for so much banding and colors on it...not to mention random colors just sprinkled on some letters, that don't quite make much sense...
The B.O.B. @ 11/15/2009 2:01:00 AM commented on Oh happy day! Heh, I saw this as your avvy on pixelation, before you submitted it here. I knew you'd have to succumb to the challenge Siren's songs sooner or later. : P
The B.O.B. @ 11/14/2009 11:17:47 AM commented on Big Bird Anything with Nic Cage in it recently, has been a HORRIBLE cinematic experience, in my opinion. The is obviously taking any crap film job he can, to pay his ever growing bills.... Transformers 2 was bloated, and went on for too long. There is such thing as too much action in a movie. Never really was a huge fan of Underworld franchise. Then again, I'm tired of movies about vampires, and the like.
The B.O.B. @ 11/14/2009 1:27:30 AM commented on Big Bird ashamed to say I've only see bits and pieces of it...I did see the last 20 min. of the end of it, though...some awesome fight scenes...

The B.O.B. @ 11/12/2009 12:42:56 PM commented on Doll 1 There's no reason for you to censor your own piece...NO ONE asked you to do this. I'm really not sure who told you this, or why you felt the need to censor it...The only thing I asked about was the way in which the circle behind the character was worked. Color count still bothersome for my tastes, however. You've barely brought it down from about 117 colors, to now 108 colors. Not really a huge difference, to be honest. Also, I don't see a particular need for the white background...

The B.O.B. @ 11/10/2009 8:26:30 PM commented on Lava Lamp Monstrosity Well, some how, some way, you may have saved as jpeg initially, and resaved that same file as gif, as there are tons of unnecessary colors in the preview...there's an easy solution to all this: just recrop the detailed image, and save it separately as a gif file again, so it won't come out with so many colors...sending back for revision.
The B.O.B. @ 11/10/2009 1:22:22 PM commented on Lava Lamp Monstrosity Please fix preview, as it's saved under a bad format for pixel art(jpeg), or else I'm sending back for revision...

The B.O.B. @ 11/5/2009 11:08:10 AM commented on Doll 1 The circle behind the doll with clothes looks like it had some sort of automatic dither/transparency effect done to it(not to mention, it looks as if it was saved as a separate entity, almost in jpeg format, even though it wasn't...just loses that handmade quality, however which way it was made...). Plus at 117 colors with a piece like this, it's easy to see that at the pixel level, control has been lost...sending back. |
