I dunno, from the zoomed version it looks like there are some random highlights under the nose. I'm sorry if I was sounding rude I just felt like some things could be changed

I'll say that the darker areas do look pretty good and so does the darker area between the eyes, but apart from that some just appear wrong imo

zombieMode: I think the "messy look" you are referring to is called "texture".

WreX (Level 1 Depressed) @ 2/26/2018 04:37

i will try to get the most of what you are telling me for my next pixel art some stuff are still style preferences but i appreciate your help

zombieMode (Level 1 Thug) @ 2/25/2018 23:04

I will respect your preference but know that a messy array of clusters does not make something "realistic". It's understanding of clusters and proper placement that does that.

Look at this example of a few self portraits by Moawko https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DEA_jkbXkAASDaG.png. You can see how the clusters aren't placed haphazardly and there are few colors. This piece also has 8 colors and yet is extremely realistic. http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/5400.htm. What makes them so realistic isn't color count, because they're respecting certain limitations. It's that every cluster has necessity and readability. Large clusters doesn't equate to cartoon style, and I didn't mention anything about shading really. I'm seeing clusters and orphan pixels like these are hardly readable and could be improved. http://prntscr.com/ijsnis.

I just hope you'll take the time to consider a bit of what I've said

WreX (Level 1 Depressed) @ 2/25/2018 05:54

thats just style preference you are basicly telling me to use less colors and more of a basic big clusters shading style wich i dont try to do and dont realy want to i just dont enjoy the results of the style or the making of it (not that its hard)  as you can see im doing a different style something you are right about is the left part below that might be better a little more smooth with the dithering there

i will think about some of the things you told me next time tho but im not going to try more of a "cartoon" style

zombieMode (Level 1 Thug) @ 2/24/2018 23:50

No, the messy look is because there are too many clusters and lone pixels on something so small. If I look at it from normal view it still appears very grainy and unreadable, especially in the middle and bottom left. You should work more with bigger clusters that convey better information, because personally I feel you've broken up so many different clusters and with such low contrast that it just feels like it was made from a normal image downscaled and not pixel art. I personally feel you could've at least removed half of the shades you're using and the difference would be a lot better.

WreX (Level 1 Depressed) @ 2/24/2018 02:12

the messy look you are saying is mostly if you zoom in too much i mostly focus on how it will look on a normal view but that also depends on your device so i cant realy tell what you see i might consider how stuff looks zoomed in next times in my normal view it just dont look like what you are saying (pc)

There are 16 colors, 8 of which are shades of brown. There are too many different colors smooshed into a 50x50 sprite and it makes everything seem very cluttered and messy. The highlights on the face have weird shapes and the dithering just makes him appear very checkerboarded. It looks fine, would just want you to consider how many colors would be suitable for a such a small canvas

WreX (Level 1 Depressed) @ 2/21/2018 21:39

myself i dont like to limit my colors im usualy going for a kind of a realistic style and and for me i feel good using big amounts of colors in my work if i need to

i dont think there are any unnecessary colors there to replace

FoxTurtle (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 2/21/2018 18:48

It reminds me of the Wednesday frog.

zombieMode (Level 1 Thug) @ 2/21/2018 18:31

I think there are too many colors for how small it is. Try to limit your palette more
