A young man walks down a dusty street, toward a hot dog vendor's cart that sits at the end of the road. His only possessions are the clothes on his back and the bat in his hand. In the weeks since the outbreak, that bat has not only been his only means of survival; it has been his only friend. As far as he knows, he is the last of his kind. The sole individual whose heart still beats, whose mind still thinks. He is the last living man on earth. When he reaches the cart, he hears a muffled sound. He can't decipher what precisely it is, but that doesn't matter. It can only be one thing. The undead lie ahead. He cautiously rounds the corner, tightening his grip on the bat. His palms sweat with anticipation. In the open street ahead are six people, or something resembling people. He draws a deep breath and whistles as loudly as his dried lips allow. The rotting creatures slowly turn around to face him. A particularly fat one stands no more than a dozen feet away, and as the undead shamble towards him, the man focused on this one. With each passing second, the creature draws closer and the stench becomes more sickening. But the man remains where he is, bat in hand. He is close enough to see the color of the eyes, shades of blue and yellow, staring blankly back at him. He draws another deep breath, now gripping the bat with both hands. His enemy lets forth a horrifying moan. He sets his jaw, and swings... |

Wannahlakujuu, you're right, like ThereIsNoCure said; it was actually the direct inspiration of George Romero's original "Night of the Living Dead," and it treated vampirism as a virus, not a mythological affliction; plus in the Vincent Price movie, the vampires were very zombie-esque.
Anyway, again, great job; totally going to use this as a reference for my n00bish crap. :P
