Finally finished the attack animation for that guy!

(original first frame I did in june)

I changed the hat, and added flowing white old-ish hair. I also made the contrast a little better.

(Slower animation to see the individual frames better)

Its one huge attempt at one huge animation! I really want to make more of these, so nice critics are appreciated.

I think you did a great job on the texture on his skin and the animation. This must've taken you forever to pixel but it was worth it.

There's one thing I don't really like, there isn't enough cloth movement on his legs. Everything else is AWESOME though, great job.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned it, but I think that you should draw some smoother blurs for the chain weapon thing. Instead of scribbles, have more... solid shapes, if that makes any sense. There's a few other things I'm not liking too much, but I have no way to really give you advice on fixing (such as the face looking flat during the turn and at the end). Other than that, a pretty awesome looking piece.

Im not very experienced yet as an animator, its the first time I try animating something of that size. I did work on each frame pretty individually instead of the thing as a whole, which is probably the source of most problems here.

Now for the crits, (I havent opened it and lokoed at every individual frame, yet)

Heres some issues I pick up off the bat.
a) The hair looks like its blowing forward when IMO it has to be going back on that motion
b) The poncho (cloak like thing) in the begining by his hand flaots in the air.. when he "punches..." this thing is stuck to his hand very unrealistic.
c) From my Martial arts experience is that you step forward, hes feet look like they cross...
it looks like he is stepping above his other foot.. this is completely of to his upper body facing forward.
d) The tail will not be there in my opinion where its currently in the last couple of frames. It looks like its connected to the upper leg instead of the back of the spine. It should be still pointing back.
e)There is a piece of chain in the end wobbling in the air after he attacks in HIS left claw.. where initially in the begining there is no chain hanning there. When throwing out a chain like that you whould slide some of it out to get distance so this is in fact backwards the chain should be there in begginging not in end.
f)As mentioned the hat should rotate if the head does...
g)The black cloth should indeed have an edge and not be smooth as referenced in first frames..
h)His face is pointing forward (in acordance to the monacle... however his nose is angled?
i) alot of chain woobly in front of his face... when something is shooting out the chain will be stiff and not wobbling... and should e feeding through the throwing hand aswell as the backhand.

Thats just some I can further analyse but I dont think its necesary.

Well the animations does not impress me as much as the sprite itself. What bothers me the most is the fact that he looks like he's shrinking when he puts his foot forward and the way the cape folds looks really wierd. I think you can do this animation alot better. I mean the pixeling itself is awesome! But the animation is not impressive! It looks like you drew 6 individual frames and then you just edited them moving different areas of the sprite.. and that makes it look very static, like larwick said. I'm going to fav this one because of the great pixeling, not because of the animation! :P

My main crit is the rim of the hat.. it seems quite odd that the shading doesn't change. I think some of the rightmost shading needs to darken, as the turn should mean that the rim is perpendicular to the light rather than facing it at that point.

God, this is impressive. The fact that you managed to pull of such a large, detailed animation so beautifully... wow.

A single crit: some of the colouring (like, on the back of his shirt/cloak/brown thing, especially) could be touched up. The fact that the shading goes from lightest brown to marginally darker brown to pure black is quite jarring, and appears a bit messy.

Other wise, though... wow.

Man.. i see people animate simple picture, but this one is really complex.. his texture and everything.. and u make him move really greatly!
i dont really love this character, but i love the animation, and the hard work you probably had.

You're the only guy i've seen pull off such a large animation so well. Lot's off life, it looks spiffing. The only problem i see is the animation for the blue part when he's turned, as it just wobbles up and down, yet seems very static. I realise even that would take alot of doing in such a large animation, but i'm sure it'd look better. Well done! <3
