Thanks @ CELS. Your comment really made me smile. Fun to wonder what would've happened if hardware had evolved differently... what if RAM had grown faster than graphical capabilities? Then maybe a game like this could have existed: still only 11 colors, but with all kinds of interactions with the environment, hand-drawn dynamic lighting, super-smooth sprite anims, and so on :)

It's a great shame that we may never see a pixel art game with this kind of detail, where monsters are dynamically interacting with the environment, causing rubble to fall and pushing bones aside. Too labor intensive. At least we can look at this gorgeous piece and daydream. :)
Slight constructive criticism: the anatomy of Mr. Spear and the somewhat undramatic cape movement could be improved, IMO.
