Thanks, etherein! Clean and colorful are two of my current favorite words for pixel art, I'm starting to realize, so I'm glad.
Thanks, Thomas! Green is the common denominator for the current series of 4, so I'm glad if it pops. The idea was basically what if wealthy secular northern traders set up shop in a place like Tibet. High altitude, really dry, really cold. A tall wooden building is out of place and would be set up (to quote JFK) not because it's easy but because it's hard. It would require transporting lumber and you'd need some clever engineering to endure winds. Just a show of strength, wealth and status, kind of like a cathedral, except it's secular. The composition is meant to capture that "wtf / omg" moment of new visitors.
Probably not realistic (defending an attack or putting out a fire would be a hassle) but I guess different fantasy genres are in part based on which lack of realism people enjoy / are comfortable with.
Thanks, Mathias! Finally feel like I'm starting to get a sense of what I want to get good at. So many different and cool styles to explore, it's easy to get lost.
Beautiful painting job Cels. I really like the perspective and the way the green elements pop.
I also don#t think "too many colors" were used here, as all seem to be put down intentionally. I really like it.
Purely conceptually, I'd ask myself why the people here used wood and not clay to build their monument, which also would have way better thermal characteristics for the environment and would not need to be brought there... but well. The painting is cool.
OK CELS! I get your point. Anyway, whether I feel you used too many colours or not, I still feel it's a great piece!
love the rendering style man. use of all the chunky non-1px clusters is very striking.
Thanks, DukeDarer. It's ok, I didn't really care about the color count for this piece and I rarely do. Saying that someone used too many colors is like saying they used a too big canvas. Too big compared to what? Just depends on the intention, really.
Great work CELS! But you probably used too many colours. Maybe you could use thirty-something colours.
it is an impeccable job
