Missed this, good stuff!
The blood is the only drawback. One color flatness takes away from the atmosphere. As mentioned the sky hides too much of the character, maybe bring the sky down a notch, like grey/purple?

Lovely character and atmosphere.
I think the ground is mostly too bright thus obscuring him a bit.
