I like the highlighting... but other than that I didn't really like it too much. But yeah, I might redo this one later like I am with the other pic. But thanks, I get what you mean.

 Are you limiting your self to the colours used in final fantasy 3?
If you are, I don't like them, I don't always agree with high contrast, but those colours need a bit of a push in the right direction. The light grey should be removed, and so should the darker blue. You'll be left with the other 6 colours and there would be a noticable differenci in contrast.

Now I still don't think thats looking so great, I think it needs to more volume, so I added a lighter hie of blue and increased contrast of the yellows.

Not the best thing in the world, but I hope it helps.

There's 2 colors for the blue (blue and purple) 2 Colors for the yellow, I have 2 grays (could probably have done it with 1...) the black outline and transparency.

8 colors, including transparency.

 8 colours....where?
I see this done in 6 colours if you coun't the black outline.
