@ Redshrike - Thanks for the suggestions. I dissagree about the pillow shading as I can't really find anywhere that has pillowing except for maybe the arms. I generally try to avoid that. As for banding...your right, I'll try adding more contrast between the colors in a little while.
@ tripnfelt - Thanks, took me a while to find ones that I liked.
@ RollerKingdom - Thanks, I'm generally not too good at hands...glad this one turned out pretty well.
Your outlining isn't bad, but the shading has issues with pillowing and banding. Pillow shading is basically shading without any distinct lightsource and which gives every part of the piece the same priority. You need to think seriously about how light would actually play over this guy, and what forms you want to convey, and where you want to draw the viewer's eye first. Banding is when you basically coat one value's pixels with a uniform layer of the next value (there are far better explanations of it on the forum, thankfully). It introduces some nasty artifacts, which ultimately serve to make the piece less smooth.
Anyway, keep at it! You've got some great potential here!
Well I've done some work in the past. None of it is really impressive. Minor pieces for some video games.
Thanks for the complement...I guess it does look like a transformer, though that wasn't intended
first? nice :D (even i don't like thingss like "transformers" >< )
Went ahead and increased the contrast of the darkest blue. I think it looks better now.
