ambient, i think i tried dunes when i first started making this, but if i remember right i couldnt get it to look right but i may try again, since i still have a few empty spots. im trying to restrict the number of tiles with in each set :P
cilein i actually have a main character made up, at least a run cycle, and its actually pretty detailed made of blues and pinks, gray and pink which show up pretty nicely
maupix,, if im understanding right you mean the little mock up, and put it where the tile set is? if so then ok
You should replace this view with the 'example' which is way more interesting.

Looks beautiful all put together in that link. The character/s to be in the environment will determine if the textures are a problem, I don't know what you've planned but an undetailed solid colored character (perhaps an AA color) would be interesting.
A lot of it seems noisy, and I think that dunes would be more fitting for the background.
